This is simply a page created as an avenue for interested people and members to keep up to date with the happenings at Mount Pleasant Cemetery , Woods Harbour, Nova Scotia To keep informtion clear and concise in regards to upkeep of grave sites in the cemetery the RULES AND REGULATIONS are as follows:
The maintenance of MOUNT PLEASANT CEMETERY is solely funded by, Lot Sales, YEARLY Lot Dues and p

rivate Donations.
1. Artificial flowers and decorative ornaments are permitted on lots . Please be advised the Spring clean-up begins after April15 so that mowing and trimming of grass may be done efficiently and safely.
3. Since they do not interfere with lawn care, saddle arrangements that are placed on monuments and remain in good condition will be left. However, we do suggest that a name be put on the bottom of the artificial arrangement in case they are blown off of their designated lots by the wind. Once identified, they will be returned to the monuments where they belong.
4.NO glass jars or breakable containers are to be left on lots. If broken, these can cause injury to workers and visitors.
5. These regulations may be changed any time by the Director/Trustees
We are so grateful for your cooporation in helping maintain the beauty of MOUNT PLEASANT CEMETERY. We welcome any personal comments or suggestions that you may feel to share and we will try to address them accordingly. President: Wayne Malone

Our Fall meeting was held on October 20 2025 at Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church . As always these meetings are open for all interested persons to attend.
As you will notice if you have visited the cemetery within the past year, we have had extensive work done with the old fence being discarded , large boulders put in place as well as having a backhoe come in to address the back area of the eastern new part by removing trees and flattening land which has enabled us to acquire more room for smaller cremation lots.
Unfortunately as with any work and maintenance done, it has come at a cost. After paying for the extensive work we find ourselves depleted in available funds. The seasonal work paid for each year is strickly for the mowing,..... all other work that you see done has been carried out by a very small number of people in our area who care deeply about the maintenance and upkeep of our cemetery and their loved ones lots, by donating their time and energy in to cutting perimeter bushes and trees that are always "taking over". We so appreciate that gesture immensely.
The people that take the time out of their busy schedules and lives to come up and care for their loved ones lots do not go un-noticed!
There is always a load of loom up at the cemetery that is available to lot owners who feel their lots made need work.
Other than the mowing that is done, If you have a concern about extra maintenance you feel needs to be addressed on your lot , we have been contacted in the past and we will always try to make every effort to help out in that regard when extra time allows.

Our monetary concerns at the moment are very low to the point it may not allow for monthly mowing to continue once season 2026 starts . We are so thankful for all that pay their lot dues diligently each year. A reminder that the 30.00 lot dues are to be in by the month of June. Keep up the great work as those funds help us to continue on with the upkeep of mowing etc. We are currently thinking of ways to fundraise so if you have an item that you would like to donate to auction off ,we are open to that as well!

As always monetary donations go a long ways in helping financially to achieve our maintenance goals. Donations to the cemetery are an investment that reaches and impacts each and every lot at Mount Pleasant. If you would thoughtfully consider a donation to this worthwhile cause, please do not hesitate to contact our treasurer Joyce Cameron or our secretary Karla Atwood.
We will have a Spring clean up time of which any glass or broken pottery will be placed in the bins as it is dangerous to the maintenance workers. We WILL NOT be removing any saddle items from lots. That will, from now on be of the discretion of the lot owner as to when to discard of old saddles or outdated seasonal decorations.

Your continued dedication and support of our cemetery reaches far and impacts many on a deeply positive and personal level. This is an opportunity to provide continued quality maintenance to Mount Pleasant Cemetery. We look forward to working side by side with you in 2026 Season

It hardly seems possible that summer is coming to an end once again!!
As of Friday, August 29th,the mowing and whipper snipping has commenced.
Please have patience as we are now filling in the many sunken graves, leveling, topping off, looming and grass seeding the newer graves that were in need of attention.

As an important side note for the publics information, there is always a load of loom at anyones disposal to be used to fix up and beautify their own families grave sites...,please feel free to use that at any time.

While our primary job is the mowing , if and when time allows between our daily jobs, we certainly do not mind helping out when and where we can in perfecting the look of graves and the grounds,....which is what we are concentrating on at this present time, as time allows.

We certainly appreciate those that have taken the initiative of keeping their loved ones lots well maintained and beautiful.

Thank you in advance for being so diligent in having these paid up to date as it helps fund the necessities (loom etc.) for Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Keep in mind there are to be no glass jars, vases or nail spikes put at the gravesites as they are and have been in the past, a safety hazard to visitors, the lawn mowing machines and the mowers.
When discarding old gravestone decorations and ornaments ,there are two tubs on site to use for disposal. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us. At this time, we cannot do e-transfers.

The cleaning of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery had started the middle of April with the clearing of winter debris. While cleaning and inspecting during this time, we were made aware that there are several graves needing immediate attention. The 2023 Season of mowing started on May 10th to have the cemetery immaculate for May 14th Mothers Day. We appreciate your concern, understanding and patience while we await the arrival of our order of loom. Be rest assured, as soon as the loom is delivered we will be addressing these specific graves. A gentle reminder as well, that June is the month to have the yearly lot dues paid. We appreciate your attention to this matter. Please see or call either Joyce Cameron or Karla Atwood and we will make sure you have a receipt for your payments. Mount Pleasant Cemetery operates on yearly dues, lot sales and personal donations in order to keep the property in pristine condition. To keep everyone updated, we are still in the process these past 2 years, of filling in the areas of deep grooves in and around the old area of the cemetery to make it more esthetic but also easier to mow and maneuver while walking. This project has and is going to be a length of time before completion.
