The Welcome Home

The Welcome Home The Welcome Home, Feeding the Hungry in Body and Spirit It is home to lay adults and to Redemptorists who live together in community to share in mission.

The Welcome Home is a concrete response to the invitation of the gospel to make the choice Jesus made – the choice in favor of the poor. It is a small inner city mission located in Winnipeg, Manitoba offering a range of programs to support people in body and spirit. It is a dynamic family of volunteers, religious, and neighbors held together by belonging, respect, prayer and humble loving service

to one’s neighbours. It is a place to encounter the other, discovering our relatedness as brothers and sisters in Christ. Since opening in 1993, it has touched many lives and continues to offer an open door for many more. The bottom line is that The Welcome Home strives to be “church” today. It invites all of us to see with the eyes of faith the presence of Christ in others, and especially those most in need of God’s compassion and love. As one of our visitor’s put it, “It is about time our church did something like this for others”.

Dear Friends: September means returning to the routine of school for students & families and to our routine at The Welcome Home! The beginning of a new season offers us the opportunity to meet new people, to add something new, or to do something in a different way. It is another opportunity to grow as persons of faith, hope and love and as a community called to care for one another and those around us. The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Sept. 30th invites us to reflect on ways we can walk the path of reconciliation and be of service to others. We pray that we are open to all the blessings and possibilities that the Lord will put before us in the year ahead! May our Blessed Mother Mary, whose birthday we celebrate on Sept. 8th, pray for us and protect us always!

Dear Friends,
After a long winter and a cool spring, many of us are glad to get outdoors in the summer weather. It also means that we are nearing the end of our regular ministry programs for the season and anticipate our summer break. While there is usually nothing scheduled during July and August, if you need to connect with us, please call the office or email [email protected] May God bless all of us with a safe, healthy and pleasant summer… and let us remember each other in prayer!
Our Mother of Perpetual Help, Saint Alphonsus and Blessed Martyr Vasyl, pray for us!

Dear Friends,
The month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother Mary. It gives us the opportunity to honour her and appreciate her role in our lives as the Mother of God and our Mother of Perpetual Help! During this month, the Easter season ends with the Feast of our Lord’s Ascension and the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Feast of Pentecost where we celebrate the birth of the Church! We thank God for the gift of the spring and the new “green” life budding around us and hopefully spiritually within us! [Registration for our summer day camp will begin soon – stay tuned!]

Dear Friends,
The new life which the Spring brings points us to the spiritual reality of Easter! Easter is the most important day in our lives as followers of Jesus. Neither death itself nor the power of the grave could hold our Saviour captive. Throughout the Easter Season we sing with renewed hope and joy “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling death by death and to those in the tombs, giving life!” This is the gift of eternal life in Christ (Romans 6:23). While our lives may often preoccupy us with loss, set-backs, failures and hurts associated with the Cross, it is important to know that the Resurrection of Christ is also working in our lives – healing and creating new life and new possibilities! We go forward with gratitude and hope, placing our lives in the hands of the risen Lord! May the power of the resurrection give us strength, confidence and courage to face all of life’s challenges.
Christ is risen!! Indeed, He is risen

Dear Friends,
By now many of us have grown tired of the Winter and wish the Spring would arrive soon. However, it is our experience of the Winter that helps us appreciate how wonderful the Spring is! Our journey through Lent is like that. Persevering with our Lenten prayers and efforts, prepares us to celebrate the light, joy and hope of Easter! Let us continue the journey, learning and growing together and may the Lord, in His mercy and kindness, be with us every step of the way.
Peace! [Reminder: We are closed for one week immediately after Easter!]

Dear Friends,
At this point in the winter we might be hoping the spring comes sooner than later. Our journey to spring coincides with our journey to Easter. On February 16th we begin Great Lent – a period of 40 days which prepares us for the spiritual spring-time of the Resurrection of Christ. It gives us time to do some spiritual “housekeeping” in our lives to renew and deepen our faith. We do that as individuals and together with the support of each other in community. May we know the Lord’s loving presence and blessing in all our efforts and good intentions!
Peace to all!
