Hello Folks,

I'm posting very early on this Saturday morning to remind you about worship at Transcona Memorial United Church, tomorrow (Sunday, May 31), and to extend an invitation to gather at the church (209 Yale Avenue West in Winnipeg) for that service.

Tomorrow, worship will look a little bit different than usual. We'll be starting with at 25ish minute hymn sing at 10:00 a.m. This will be a kind of "Stump the Band" hymn sing where Crystal and Henry will lead you in selected verses of hymns of your choosing. It should be a joyful way to embody the Spirit within the gathered time and space and company.

Then, at 10:30 a.m., we'll be connecting to the live stream of the Celebration of Ministry worship service from Selkirk United Church. This service will be celebrating new ministers in our Prairie to Pine Regional Council. The preacher for the service will be The Right Reverend Kimberly Heath, Moderator of The United Church of Canada.

For a little bit of context: since Thursday afternoon, United Church clergy, lay people, Regional Council and General Council staff, and others have been gathering at Selkirk United Church for the 8th Regional Gathering of Prairie to Pine Regional Council. These days have been filled with making and renewing connections, worshipping, singing, bible study, prayer, meals together, and stories. I have been attending this gathering with our Regional Council Rep, Alan Gershuny.

On Friday, we received presentations from both Rev. Shannon McCarthy (Executive Minister with Prairie to Pine) and Moderator Kimberly Heath. They engaged us in conversation as we explored the United Church, through the lens of the General Council's "Toward 2035" program (https://united-church.ca/toward2035).

It has been a very good Regional Gathering. Today, there will be a variety of workshops. Tonight, is the celebration banquet. And tomorrow, we will worship together in person and virtually.

And you can be part of the excitement when you join with others at Transcona Memorial at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. Please remember there is construction at the church and access to the building will be through the choir room door.

Blessings,
Rob.

Hello Folks,

The construction on Yale Avenue West has begun. Please be aware of building accessibility as outlined in the information below.

We understand that this construction will be an inconvenience, but we recognize that this inconvenience will be temporary, with benefits that will be helpful for our continued presence in the community.

If you have other questions please contact the church office (204-222-1331).

Blessings,
Rob.

RE: Yale Avenue West Construction
From Monday, May 25 for approximately 10 weeks, Yale Avenue West will be closed between Winona Street and Day Street. This is to facilitate the reconstruction of the pavement, sidewalks and sewer infrastructure, and the installation of a three-vehicle cutout in front of the church for loading/unloading. The length of the closure will be weather dependent.
During this time, access to TMUC will begin with street parking in the adjacent neighbourhood and walking to the church. Dropping off passengers will also be possible but parking access at the church will not be reliable. Access to the church building will be through the choir room door (north side of the building), only during regular office hours and on Sunday mornings for worship. Access to the church building from the south, through the sanctuary doors or the CE (glass) doors, will not be reliable and should not be expected.
Access through the choir room door will require pressing a doorbell to notify the office of your presence.
User groups and renters will need to arrange and coordinate their access to the building as soon as possible by contacting the church office (204-222-1331 or [email protected]).

Hello Folks,

I said that I would post the questions from this morning's "Stories & Tales," to provide conversation fodder for you...

• What is a gift that you bring to the community of faith (the church) …

• Is this gift “from the Spirit”?
• How do you know?
• Where did it originate?
• How did you learn it or acquire it?

• Is this gift of value to the community of faith? Explain.

• What Spiritual Gifts best express or articulate the identity of TMUC?

Enjoy the conversation. Feel free to email me your reflections ([email protected])

Blessings,
Rob.

Hello Folks,

I'm posting on this "I-wish-it-would-finally-warm-up-and-be-spring" Saturday to extend an invitation to you to join us for worship at Transcona Memorial United Church tomorrow (Sunday, May 24). We would love the chance to share the time and space and energy of worship with you at TMUC tomorrow. All are welcome! Anyone! Anytime!

Tomorrow we will be celebrating what is sometimes referred to as the "Church's Birthday." Tomorrow we will be celebrating Pentecost! The story of God's Holy Spirit coming to the people who were living in the void of Jesus' death, picking up the pieces of their lives and trying to do the best that they could, to continue Jesus' legacy of compassion and justice. And we would love to celebrate with you!

The worship service tomorrow will also include the Sacrament of Communion, and please know that everyone and anyone is invited to share in the gifts of amazing grace and abundant love that are provided at and shared from this table. Everyone.

Tomorrow's Pentecost service will begin at 10:00 a.m. The doors will be open by 9:00 a.m. for those who wish to arrive early. As well, we provide a live stream of the service on the TMUC page on Facebook, and this begins shortly before 10 o'clock.

We would love to worship with you at Transcona Memorial tomorrow (Sunday, May 24). We hope that you might choose to fit us into your Sunday schedule.

Blessings,
Rob.

Hello Folks,

I'm posting on this Saturday afternoon to extend an invitation to you to join us at Transcona Memorial United Church for worship tomorrow morning (Sunday, May 10).

We have lots planned for worship at TMUC tomorrow. It is Mother's Day! It is Christian Family Sunday! And, we will be celebrating the Sacrament of Baptism! We are anticipating a spirit-filled morning of celebration and hope, and we would love for you to join us, and share in the time and space and energy of worship.

Worship begins in person at 10:00 a.m., and the doors will be open by 9:00 a.m. for those who wish to arrive early. Also, beginning just before 10 o'clock is our live stream of the worship service, and this can be found on the TMUC page on Facebook.

Tomorrow, everything we'll be about is founded on our focus scripture, which will be John 14:15-21 (Jesus' promise of the Holy Spirit, as a companion and guide for his friends).

So, we would absolutely love to share the time and space and energy of worship with you at Transcona Memorial tomorrow morning (Sunday, May 10). All are welcome! Anyone! Anytime!

You can find us at 209 Yale Avenue West in Winnipeg.

Blessings,
Rob.

Red Dress Day

At Transcona Memorial United Church we express our commitment toward reconciliation by hanging red dresses and by acknowledging and commending the REDress Project's advocacy for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People.

These photos are of two of the 14 red dresses that are hanging throughout our building.

For more information about the REDress Project, look for Jaime Black-Morsette's book "REDress: Art, Action, and the Power of Presence" (Portage & Main Press, 2025)

"Red Dress Day is a day that is aimed to raise awareness about the ongoing crisis and devastating impacts of the national emergency of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, two spirit, and gender-diverse people (MMIWG2S+)" (The Southern Chiefs Organization, www.scoinc.mb.ca/red-dress-day-2026/)

To find out more about Red Dress Day - to increase your awareness and knowledge - the websites of these organizations might be worth your time and energy to visit:

Increasing our awareness and knowledge are small, yet crucial, steps we must take if we are serious about and committed to reconciliation with Indigenous People and Indigenous communities.

Rob.
