Hello Folks,
I'm posting very early on this Saturday morning to remind you about worship at Transcona Memorial United Church, tomorrow (Sunday, May 31), and to extend an invitation to gather at the church (209 Yale Avenue West in Winnipeg) for that service.
Tomorrow, worship will look a little bit different than usual. We'll be starting with at 25ish minute hymn sing at 10:00 a.m. This will be a kind of "Stump the Band" hymn sing where Crystal and Henry will lead you in selected verses of hymns of your choosing. It should be a joyful way to embody the Spirit within the gathered time and space and company.
Then, at 10:30 a.m., we'll be connecting to the live stream of the Celebration of Ministry worship service from Selkirk United Church. This service will be celebrating new ministers in our Prairie to Pine Regional Council. The preacher for the service will be The Right Reverend Kimberly Heath, Moderator of The United Church of Canada.
For a little bit of context: since Thursday afternoon, United Church clergy, lay people, Regional Council and General Council staff, and others have been gathering at Selkirk United Church for the 8th Regional Gathering of Prairie to Pine Regional Council. These days have been filled with making and renewing connections, worshipping, singing, bible study, prayer, meals together, and stories. I have been attending this gathering with our Regional Council Rep, Alan Gershuny.
On Friday, we received presentations from both Rev. Shannon McCarthy (Executive Minister with Prairie to Pine) and Moderator Kimberly Heath. They engaged us in conversation as we explored the United Church, through the lens of the General Council's "Toward 2035" program (https://united-church.ca/toward2035).
It has been a very good Regional Gathering. Today, there will be a variety of workshops. Tonight, is the celebration banquet. And tomorrow, we will worship together in person and virtually.
And you can be part of the excitement when you join with others at Transcona Memorial at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow. Please remember there is construction at the church and access to the building will be through the choir room door.
Blessings,
Rob.
