A Prayer for Orange Shirt Day
God of liberation and healing,
We know you are a God who listens to the cries of humanity, and is moved to save. In Jesus you demonstrated for humanity, Your way of healing and hope. Offering companionship, attention, and healing presence to those ignored, marginalized and violated by community, religious and political realities of oppression and domination.
In this season of undivided attention towards Truth-Telling about the historic and present day impacts of Residential Schools, one among many tools used to attempt to disappear Indigenous peoples: help people to listen with respect, honoring the strength that it takes to share hard truth. Help people to respond with empathy and compassion, even when our narratives about the church and our nation are challenged. May your Spirit continue to carry us to the place where all the experiences from our collective past are acknowledged, and continue to shape a shared vision for a reconciled future - where habits of domination are challenged, and life energy is given to support the Calls to Action and Justice that are the outcome of the truth-gift shared with us all. We thank You for the strong vision and leadership that Survivors and Indigenous communities bring to the path of reconciliation that we are all invited to walk.
Be with all those who are wearing Orange Shirts, walking, speaking, listening and showing up on the Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We know that repair and restoration is not a one-day commitment, but a multi-generational call on your people. Help us align ourselves and our communities with your Spirit, assured that we are not alone. That where restoration and healing is present, there we will find You. Thanks be to You, loving Creator, whose Spirit accompanies us and calls us towards Truth and the ongoing walk of Reconciliation.
