One year ago we proudly launched our Rooster Town walk! Have you taken the self-guided tour through the neighbourhood? It is filled with rich history. Scan the QR code in the window facing Harrow and start off on your tour.

The story of Rooster Town is the story of resilient families. People were constructing their own shelters, accessing labour opportunities in the city proper, and maintaining kin, language and cultural connections. As development in Fort Rouge expanded, Rooster Town was forced to move further west and south. Most homes were one or two rooms and often housed extended family members. Men found work as labourers and many women worked as domestics

A message from United Church Moderator, Rev. Dr. Kimberly Heath for Pride, calling the church to move deeper into inclusion, justice, and radical belonging.

As we gather this Pride season, we do so with honesty, humility, and hope.

In 2025, The United Church of Canada offered an apology to 2S and LGBTQIA+ people and communities—naming the real harm caused through words, actions, silence, and systems that failed to protect and affirm God’s beloved people.

This message reflects on that apology—not as an ending, but as a beginning. A threshold into deeper healing, accountability, and transformation.

Pride is more than celebration. It is remembrance. It is resistance. It is a witness to the sacred truth that every identity rooted in love and authenticity is a divine gift.

Radical belonging is not optional—it is at the heart of the Gospel.

May we continue the work of becoming a church that learns, acts with courage, and lives out love in word and deed.

Happy Pride. 🌈
