Devotion in Motion Across Rural Manitoba 🚗❄️

What does faith look like on the move? For Rev. Philip Malayil, it’s a 210‑km Sunday drive through western Manitoba, from Baldur to Dunrea to Brandon — serving four small churches and a wonderfully diverse parish community.

Originally from Kerala, shaped by ministry work in Guatemala, and serving Canadians since 2006, Fr. Philip Malayil brings both compassion and multilingual connection to his role. His weekly Spanish‑language mass has become an anchor for Brandon’s growing Hispanic community — strengthening faith, belonging, and cultural ties across the region.

It’s early on a Sunday morning. The city of Brandon is still sleeping. Downtown, across from the courthouse, the only sign of life stirs in the parking lot of St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church, as Rev. Philip Malayil climbs into his white SUV, ready to set out on his familiar journey.

This blue mass was a heartfelt tribute to the police officers, firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and all first responders who dedicate their lives to keeping us safe.

The ceremony offered a moment of reflection, gratitude, and unity as we recognized the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering service of those who run toward danger when others run away.

🌿 Entering the Season of Lent 🌿

As we begin this sacred journey of Lent, we’re invited to slow down, reflect, and draw closer to Christ through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

It’s a season of renewal — a time to open our hearts, let go of what weighs us down, and make space for God’s grace to transform us.

May these 40 days lead us to deeper compassion, stronger faith, and a renewed sense of hope.

🙏 How will you make space for God this Lent?

Last week, Catholic school educators and administrators from across Manitoba came together at St. Mary's Academy for a meaningful day of connection, learning, and spiritual renewal.

The day began with a beautiful Mass celebrated by Archbishop Murray Chatlain, grounding us in faith and unity while encouraging us to open our eyes and welcome others with an open heart.

Following Mass, attendees had the opportunity to hear from Stacey MacNeil-Ayeh, who offered an insightful and heartfelt presentation on the evolving challenges faced by Catholic teachers today. From navigating cultural shifts to supporting students in a rapidly changing world, her message resonated deeply with all who were present.

🙏✨ A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this day possible—and to all our dedicated Catholic educators who continue to inspire, lead, and form young hearts and minds each day.
