Charleswood Community Church We are an evangelical community church located in Charleswood, in the west side of Winnipeg, MB

Our Sunday service begins at 10:30 am and features inspiring worship, practical Biblical teaching, and opportunities to connect with caring people. The first Sunday of each month we focus our service on communion, as we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus. This remembrance fills us with hope and joy as we live out our faith. We invite you to come as you are, as our service is relaxed and

casual. People from all walks of life gather to worship each week, learning what it means to connect with God and love people.

What things do you notice in John 16:16-33 that Jesus concludes will bring peace to our troubled lives?

- the hope of seeing Him again
- grief will be turned to joy
- everything we have dreamed of will be fulfilled in the presence of God
- complete joy
- complete understanding
- complete rest in knowing Jesus overcomes

If you are burdened by worry for the future or the troubles of today, try this breath prayer:

Inhale: Because of Jesus
Exhale: There is peace

Repeat as many times as you need. 🤍

When we say we love our volunteers, we mean it!!

The local church was never meant to be run completely by paid staff - we all have a role to play. Using the gifts and talents the Lord has given you for the edification of the local church will bless others and bless you!

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ ‭

A big THANK YOU to ALL our volunteers, but especially the ones pictured here (who worked hard to get our tech up and running on a wild morning!).

SILENCED, UNSEEN, SUFFERING

Across the world, Christian women like Ariana are targeted for both their faith and their gender.

Many are subject to domestic violence, trafficking and systemic abuse.đź’š
But even though these women are intensely vulnerable, their suffering is often hidden.
Persecuted women are in danger of being erased – but you can restore them with your persistent prayer on their behalf.

“God’s children will always face persecution
and suffering,” says Ariana. “But nothing can separate us from the love of God. He is always with us. This is what encourages us and gives us strength for the hardships we face.”

Follow for more ways to pray and support the persecuted church around the globe.

Don’t forget to SPRING FORWARD before you go to sleep tonight!

Longer days come with a brief disruption of an hour less of sleep 🥱🥱 but are a sure sign that spring is on the way.

It may be hard getting up for the next day, but take the opportunity as a reminder that God has a plan for you in the coming season. He is good and always faithful. đź’š

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

The only thing better than a fellowship Sunday, is a POTLUCK SUNDAY!

Bring something to share tomorrow and stick around for our Annual Congregational Meeting to praise God with us for what He’s done and what He will do!

A 17th-century French boy, a war veteran, a faulty footman: Nicholas Hermanc left it all to join the monastery in hope of a quiet, unbothered life. However, what he discovered in his relationship with God not only drew people from all over to seek his advice, it also was gathered into a book that has been read by multitudes of people over the centuries. His letters and conversations became: “The Practice of the Presence of God.”

Let’s talk about this little book at our Christian Classics Book Club gathering, 6:30pm on Sunday, February 22nd!

Why Lent?

Just as when Jesus was fasting in the wilderness (Matthew 4), we choose to set aside the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday to fast and prepare. We allow ourselves to get hungry and feast on Jesus, the Bread of Life. We deny ourselves for a deeper experience of frailty and weakness.

Rachel Joy Welcher writes:
“My weakness often takes the shape of forgetfulness. I forget that God will sustain me, and so I reach for food as though it is my only source of strength. I check my phone for a brief hit of dopamine. I list off all my worries to my husband in a fit of anxiety, without stopping to take a breath. I assume, wrongly, that I am my own saviour or that God’s grace has run out….

{PAUSE & PRAY}

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. Were these stones bread, I would not cry out to you. I would feast. But in this fast, I see you are my lifeline. I am tempted in this wilderness, but I am not alone. You walked on dry sand, stumbled from fatigue, rumbled from hunger, and still you clung to the truth of your Father. Still you denied Satan the satisfaction of owning you. Surely, through your example and the power of the Holy Ghost, I can press on this day.“

Amen.

Once Desi started attending Charleswood Community Church in Winnipeg, he didn’t want to leave,
When a part time role came up for kids ministry, he stepped in.
Then when Faith Bible Camp was looking for an office manager, the people in charge of hiring worked together with Charleswood Community Church to make a full time role for Desi.
After a few years, Desi moved into a full time role at the church as Students Pastor in 2017.

Good mentorship has been one of God’s graces to Desi these past 10 years or so.
The pastor of the church, Gavin, saw some gifting and desire in him and he responded in practical, helpful ways.
When Desi approached Gavin about starting a worship service at Charleswood, Gavin leaned in and coffee and breakfast together became a regular habit.
Gavin checked in and helped Desi shape the worship services, offering suggestions and asking good questions.
Desi relied on his wisdom and admired the godly character he saw in Gavin.
When Gavin gave him healthy pushes towards more ministry, Desi stepped forward, knowing that he had a mentor alongside him who wanted him to use his gifts for the glory of God and to serve the local church.

For a young person in ministry, to have someone who’s got your back, isn’t afraid to challenge you, and wants you to grow in faith and spiritual maturity - that’s a gift.

Sometimes mentorship is as simple as coffee, good conversation, and opening some doors.

It’s L❤️VE day!

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Spend some time today meditating on 1 John 4:7-21 and reflecting on what it means to be loved by God and how that love is working to transform you into greater Christlikeness.

There is truly no more pure, complete and perfect love than what the Lord has offered us! ❤️

February is LOVE MONTH! đź©·

We love because God loved us first.
We can have compassion for others because God’s very nature is full of compassion!

Search, study and write out scriptures that reflect this truth all month long. đź©·
