For our 2nd Annual Campfire service today, folks were invited - as they chose - to come dressed casually, as they might for camping or to sit around the campfire. Rev. Susan chose a t-shirt with a message.

Blessings on your Sunday, from all of us at NKUC.

Sunday, August 30 -
2nd Annual Camp & Campfire Sunday

Come, gather around the artificial campfire in the sanctuary, to sing some camp-style songs, and engage in a more informal style of worship.

You are invited to come dressed casually if you choose (as you might for camping), and you are invited to bring an extra pair of shoes to church with you - maybe a favourite pair, or a pair which says something about you, or whichever pair you happen upon first. These will be used for a display during worship, and you can take them home with you after the service.

Worship begins at 10am, with coffee and conversation to follow the service.
We hope you'll join us!

Sunday, June 7 - Celebration Sunday

We hope you'll join us as we celebrate our congregation, our shared mission and ministry, and our Children & Youth ministries in particular, as they soon enter into their summer break.

We hope you'll come early to sign cards for our two high school graduates, and stay after the service for a BBQ lunch and some games.

Worship begins at 10am.
Everyone is welcome!

A Mother's Day Blessing
to all those who offer mothering love in so many ways,
to birth mothers, adopted mothers, stepmothers, foster mothers, chosen mothers, grandmothers and godmothers,
to soon-to-be mothers and those yearning to be mothers,
to those of all genders who offer tender care and understanding to children,
to all who are missing their mothers and those grieving for their mothers,
to broken-hearted mothers grieving for their children, gone too soon,
and to all who carry pain in their hearts as mothers or because of mothers,
we pray that you will know God's presence with you
as you mark this day, whatever it means for you this year,
joy or grief, hope or fear, sorrow or celebration, frustration or delight.
May you know God’s love enfolding you with all the love you offer to others, and more.
God bless you, today and every day.

May 5 is Red Dress Day, the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People (MMIWG2S). It is a day of remembrance—and a call to act. Let us honour the lives lost, support the grieving, seek justice for the missing, and continue to raise our voices and speak out against colonization, racism, and the injustice of MMIWG2S.

Indigenous women are sacred: life-givers, knowledge keepers, and leaders in their communities. The violence they face is rooted in ongoing colonial systems that continue to put their lives at risk. This crisis is not behind us. It continues.

Today, you can:

📍 Hang a red dress outside your home or church as a public witness
🤝 Join Red Dress Day events in your community
❤️ Support the United Church’s Healing Fund: https://ow.ly/M83750YV1tV
🙏 Pray for action to end this violence:

God of justice and compassion,
we remember today the missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls,
and Two-Spirit people whose lives were sacred and loved.

We grieve with families and communities who carry loss and unanswered questions.
We lament the systems of racism and colonialism that continue to cause harm.

Stir our hearts beyond remembrance into action.

Give us courage to listen deeply, to speak truthfully,
and to work for safety, dignity, and justice for all.

May the red dresses we see today call us to accountability and hope—
until every life is honoured, and all your people can live in peace.

Amen.
