Our Grow Hope Campaign has continued to grow over the summer months. Currently, our donation total stands at $4,276 (our goal is $5,000)! Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far. The call went up on Sunday to help with an earth-moving project, and we were blessed to have so many parishioners — and some of their family members — answer the call. Not shown are a few others who came early before heading off to another commitment, but who also contributed greatly. Thanks, all!

Anishinaabe Days is Treaty One Nations’ annual summer celebration held at Naawi-Oodena, bringing people together to experience Anishinaabe culture through community and connection. Free and open to all, the event creates a welcoming space for families, neighbours, partners, and allies to learn and celebrate.

THE 5TH ANNUAL ANISHINAABE DAYS TRADITIONAL POWWOW IS BACK! 🪶

Join us as part of the 5th Annual Anishinaabe Days celebration for a weekend of song, dance, drumming, and gathering at Naawi-Oodena, 505 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, on July 25 and 26.

The Anishinaabe Days Traditional Powwow has become an important stop on the Treaty One Powwow Trail, bringing together dancers, drum groups, families, and visitors from across Treaty One Territory and beyond. For our urban members who may not be travelling to community powwows this summer, this is your opportunity to gather, celebrate, and experience the beauty of our Anishinaabe culture right here in the heart of Winnipeg. Everyone is welcome.

St. Peter’s 70th Anniversary Memory (submitted by Bob C)

Back in the 80’s and into the 90’s we had a Men’s Breakfast Group that met on Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 10:00. All the food would be purchased at Superstore the day before.

The day started about 6 to 6:30 a.m. when Bob Cook arrived at the Church to start cooking. The menu consisted of Pancakes and Sausages, Toast, Coffee and Tea, or alternately Scrambled Eggs with Sausages and Hash browns, with Toast, Coffee and Tea. Usually Colin Dorrian, George Green, and/or Rupert Ross would turn up to help with preparing the meals. We usually had 20 to 25 guys show up to set up the tables and chairs, and enjoy a hearty breakfast. On many occasions we would have a guest speaker, either from our own Parish, or from outside, to talk about hobbies or info on current events, or subjects such as Wills and Power of Attorney.

Occasionally we would invite the Ladies of the Church, who often met at their own breakfast, to join us. They usually served salads and fruits for breakfast, so coming to our session was a big change and, based on their comments later, was really well liked.

It ended up that our Group was asked to host a Pancake and Sausage Supper on Shrove Tuesday. We would start cooking around 3:00 p.m. with the meals being served from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. People could come and go in that time frame as their schedule dictated. It became quite popular as each year we had more show up serving somewhere between 60 and 70 people.

It was lots of fun, lots of laughs, and enjoyable by all the guys.

On June 21, the National Indigenous Day of Prayer, the Rev. Canon Dr. Murray Still delivers the sermon to talk about the steps the Anglican Church of Canada has taken so far to support Truth & Reconciliation, shares a bit of his personal story, and points to what our next steps might be.
