The Cathedral is the spiritual home to some 900 families as well as being the Roman Catholic Cathedral for the Archdiocese of Winnipeg. Every year throughout the month of November, we remember our faithful departed in a special way by praying for all the names included in our Vessel of Remembrance during the Intercessions at Mass. Sheets and pencils are available next to the Vessel of Remembrance if you wish to add the names of your deceased loved ones.

At 9:47 this morning [local time], His Eminence Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, announced with sorrow the death of Pope Francis, with these words:

“Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow, I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 [local time] this morning the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father. His entire life was devoted to service to the Lord and His Church. He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with fidelity, courage and universal love, especially in favour of the poorest and most marginalized. With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite merciful love the One and Triune God”.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
