Winnipeg’s municipal elections are coming up on October 28! 🗳️

How much do you know about how decisions are made in our city? And how can we, as residents, play a more active role in shaping Winnipeg’s future?

With the elections just around the corner, it’s a great time to learn more about how our city works, the issues that affect our daily lives, and the many ways we can participate in civic life beyond voting.

Join Winnipeg Central Mosque for an engaging and informative evening with Shaun Loney and Mohamed Hassan, who will share their knowledge and insights into municipal government and civic participation.

Whether you’re new to Winnipeg, voting for the first time, or simply curious about how to get more involved, this workshop is for you!

📅 Thursday, October 22 | 7–9 PM

Today marks the 44th anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, which was committed on September 16, 1982, and lasted three days. According to different estimates, between 1,300 and 4,000 civilians were killed, most of them Palestinian refugees, along with hundreds of Lebanese civilians.

The Israeli military surrounded the two camps and illuminated the sky with flares, while armed militias entered the camps and carried out killings of refugees, including women and children. Homes were also destroyed over their residents.

After the occupation forces withdrew on September 18, medical teams and journalists entered the camps and found bodies piled up in the streets and mass graves. The exact death toll remains uncertain, with hundreds of people still missing and their fate unknown to this day.

Thank you Islamic Relief Canada for inviting us to partner on the Annual Back2School Backpack Campaign! Together we assembled 70 backpacks for Kindergarten to Grade 8 students to help them with supplies they need to succeed. WCM community members in need have already signed up for the backpacks and they are mostly spoken for now. However if you would like to request a backpack, please email us at [email protected] OR send us a direct message and we can put you on a waiting list in case anyone does not pick up their bags. Please provide your name and number in your email/message.
May Allah (SWT) bless all the volunteers and donors!

Police are investigating an attack on Rahma Masjid (in Winnipeg) that took place Wednesday night, July 29. Shots were fired and windows were smashed. Alhamdulillah community members are safe but shaken by the incident. May Allah (SWT) protect our communities. Sending love and dua to the Rahma Jamaat.

We are deeply saddened and concerned by the recent shooting attack at the Rahma Masjid. We are praying for the Rahma community and stand in solidarity with them through this trial. Rahma is a beloved centre and community in Winnipeg that does tremendous work. We pray that Allah (SWT) keeps all who attend safe and strong.

These moments certainly remind us of the importance of faith in Allah, community building and steadfastness. Let’s remain vigilant but also take comfort in the support from the greater community. We are eager to see government and law enforcement develop strategies to seriously address the escalation of violence and harassment against Muslims across Canada and hold perpetrators accountable.
