Psalm 35:17
“How long, Lord, will you look on? Rescue me from their ravages, my precious life from these lions.”

The tests and trials in our lives can seem to go on forever. We can begin to wonder what is happening to us. These tests can drive us into a deeper trust in God as He is really the only place we can turn to. They can strengthen our faith and allow us to praise Him in the storm. David learned this and by the end of this Psalm, David praises the Lord.

1 Thessalonians 2:13
"And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.”

I remember reading my Bible before I became a Christian. I did not understand a word that I was reading, it made no sense to me at all. When I accepted Jesus the power of the Holy Spirit came upon me and the words of the Bible began to slowly change my life. The Holy Spirit brings those words to life so that we as believers know that they come from God. It changes our hearts and gives us an inner assurance in God.

When have you felt God speaking to you through the Bible?

Isaiah 62:2
"The nations will see your vindication, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the LORD will bestow."

Have you ever thought about changing your name? Maybe you think your name is awful or you just want a new start and think that may help you. As believers when we accept Jesus, we are given a new identity that is in Him. God puts his personal stamp on you and I and we are not the same as we once were apart from His power.

What evidence of God in your life is there for people to see a new person?

Isaiah 45:18
"For this is what the LORD says— he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited— he says: “I am the LORD, and there is no other.”

When we are looking for hope and help, we tend to turn to things of this world and make them more important than God. God created everything as a reminder that He is greater than anything. We in turn should praise and worship Him for what He has given us rather than turn to idols. There is no other God but the one true God.

Proverbs 15:1
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

You ever notice that when you respond to someone in a harsh manner it creates an argumentative environment. Both parties begin to become angry and defensive. As believers we are told to be gentle in our words towards others to avoid aggravating a situation. When we speak softer the situation changes and people begin to listen.

John 8:12
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

So many times, people do not know where they are going in this life. We spend most of their time searching and never find what they are looking for. Jesus came to give us a light so that we would know where we are going. We no longer have to walk in the darkness. The way to do this is that we must follow and obey Him and His words so that we will have that light walking with us.

Hebrews 11:4
"By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead.”

Many times, we can go through the motions because we know the right thing to do. We can go to church, bible study and serve Him because we have been taught, we are supposed to. God sees right through all of that to the heart that we have. We cannot fool Him by our actions; He can see our motives and if we are just going through the motions.

What can you do when you find yourself going through the motions?

1 John 4:18
"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

A lot of us have different fears but the one thing that fear does to all is it stops us. It stops you from doing more, being more and even saying more. It can hold us back and if we leave can stop us from doing what God calls us to do. We must remember that the one who lives is us does not give us a spirit of fear. We are not alone, and He is always walking right beside us.
