Psalm 68:20
"Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.”

One of the greatest comforts we can take is that God is there with us all the time. He is the one who saved us through sending His son to the cross as a sacrifice on our behalf. We must never forget who gave us life. He gives us eternal life so that we never die but live with Him forever.

Do you know the God who gave eternal life?

2 Corinthians 5:21
"God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”

We deserved a punishment from God for our sin against Him. The good thing is God sent his innocent son Jesus in our place so that because of Him we could be in God’s presence once more. Jesus the sinless one paid it all once and for all.

What does it mean to you that Jesus took your place?

Psalm 68:19
"Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.”

When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour there are areas of our lives we try to keep Him out of. We still try to deal with some things on our own. We still do not trust Him with our burdens because others have let us down in the past. We must learn that He is someone we can trust completely with our burdens and as we do He will walk beside us.

What are some ways God helps you bear your burdens?

John 7:38
"Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them."

We think we can do things to make ourselves a better person. Jesus' plan for us was not simply to develop us into a better person. His plan was for us to believe in Him, and He will make us like Him. If we believe in Jesus, the living water flows through us and transforms us. That water pours through us and changes us.

What are some ways you are letting the living water transform you?

Romans 5:12
"Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way, death came to all people, because all sinned—”

In sports many times I would have to run a lap because of others' mistakes, not simply my own. It did not really seem fair to me at the time, I got the fact that we were a team, but I did not mess up. In the same way God found us all guilty of sin through one-man Adam. I am not sure any of us could say we would have resisted. The great news for us though is that through another man Jesus we are all saved if we confess Him as Lord and turn from our sinful ways.

What comfort does it bring to you knowing that we are all treated the same in death and life?

Psalm 16:11
“You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

On our own we cannot figure out the way to live like God wants us to. We cannot correct our behavior with our own effort. The fullness of joy and life is found in the presence of God, and we must learn and discover how to live in His presence. We do that through His word and prayer and worship not out of obligation but out of our love for who God is and what He has done for us.

“9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Today’s encouragement by Dawn

Have I not commanded you? This is not an option- or a suggestion. The Lord our God commands us to do something. What is it that He wants us to do? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged. I don’t know about you but I need to not just hear this but with every ounce of my being believe it and do it. I see here that God knows that we are weak, scaredy people who will get discouraged a lot. So He puts it as a command- but sometimes we stop there and just try to do more on our own. But the end of the verse is where it’s really at…. For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. Now that I can really hold onto, because He is with me wherever I go. I can be strong and courageous because of Him.

Psalm 57:2
“I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me.”

When we are hurt, far too often we seek retribution on the one who hurt us. I believe that we need to learn to trust and rely upon God in those situations. When we learn to call out to God in those situations our hearts will begin to align with His will and we will let Him deal with the situation in His time.
