Mary Oliver- The Poet thinks about the Donkey 🫏

On the outskirts of Jerusalem
the donkey waited.
Not especially brave, or filled with understanding,
he stood and waited.

How horses, turned out into the meadow,
leap with delight!
How doves, released from their cages,
clatter away, splashed with sunlight.

But the donkey, tied to a tree as usual, waited.
Then he let himself be led away.
Then he let the stranger mount.

Never had he seen such crowds!
And I wonder if he at all imagined what was to happen.
Still, he was what he had always been: small, dark, obedient.

I hope, finally, he felt brave.
I hope, finally, he loved the man who rode so lightly upon him,
as he lifted one dusty hoof and stepped, as he had to, forward.

Blessed is the name of the One who comes in the name of the Lord!

To support the Migrant Workers Ministry, headed by the Rev. Augusto Nunez, All Saints’ Men’s Group will, during the month of June 2023, conduct a “Triple S” (shirts, sweatshirts and socks) clothing drive to be donated at the end of the June to migrant workers from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean who are employed in farming and harvesting operations in the Durham Region.

New and gently-used men’s shirts and sweatshirts – in various sizes – plus new pairs of socks may be dropped off at the church during the week; or at the Food Drop-off event (June 17, 1-3 PM); or after Sunday worship services.

This “Triple S” outreach effort by the Men’s Group of our church is another way we all can help others in need and be examples of caring and giving disciples in Christ.

Thank you.

George Csihas, Men’s Group Chairperson
& Deacon Gary Gannon
