Our friends in the Parish of Digby have the opportunity to receive funding toward saving their beautiful yet at-risk Rose Window at Trinity Anglican Church in Digby. Please show your support by offering your vote by the deadline!

CBC, April 4, Molly McNaughton: Église Sainte-Marie in Church Point, N.S., and the Trinity Anglican Church in Digby are the only remaining finalists from the Maritimes in a national competition for a $50,000 grand prize to protect their building's heritage.

The National Trust for Canada is holding the Next Great Save competition. There are 12 finalists overall.

The Trinity church is trying to save its iconic rose window, known as “The Children’s Window.” The window was designed in England while the church was being built in the late 1870s.

The plaster on the inside of the church has deteriorated over the years, as have the wooden clapboards on the outside, leading to concerns about possible harm to the window.

“It’s such an iconic place in Digby,” says church warden Colleen Humbert. She has a personal connection to the site, having married her husband there after moving to the town a decade ago.

Humbert says the prize money would jumpstart necessary restoration. It would ensure the building continues to be a gathering place for the whole town and not just a place of worship.

“We do our best to have community events there, such as concerts,” says Humbert. “We think of it as … one of the most centrally important buildings in our town.”

Église Sainte-Marie is no different. Recognized as the tallest wooden church in North America, the building serves as a pillar of Acadian heritage and a symbol of the community’s identity.

The building has faced the possibility of demolition for years. Built in the early 1900s, it was slated to be torn down last year. It's now making a comeback, says Stéphanie St-Pierre, the co-founder and co-president of the Association Sainte-Marie Héritage et Développement.

Of the many required repairs, St-Pierre says the most symbolic for the community would be hearing the church bells ring once again.

“I think that it's so important for us to understand that within the Acadian community, built heritage sometimes is religious, but it's still built heritage and it was built by the community for the community,” she says.

As a community hub, the church was even a regular site of Université Sainte-Anne graduations until 2019.

Starting April 7, Canadians can cast their votes online to help decide which heritage project wins the grand prize. The winner will be announced on April 24.

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

The Parish of Weymouth had a blessed Resurrection Sunday, Celebrating our Risen Lord, who overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life!

It was a particularly poignant Easter Sunday, with the Baptism of Matilda and Louis, new members of Christ's One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church.

May this day always be remembered as the day of new life and new beginnings for you all, Renaud, Sarah, Matilda and Louis!

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, whose
beloved Son did share in Nazareth the life of
an earthly home: Bless, we beseech thee, the home
of these children, and grant wisdom and understand-
ing to all who shall have the care of them, that they
may grow up in stedfast love and reverence of thy
holy Name; through the same thy Son Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

Good Afternoon Friends,

This Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday which is the final Sunday after Epiphany and where we contemplate the divinity of Christ as revealed upon the mountain top to his disciples Peter, John, and James.

Rev. Julia will be celebrating Holy Communion and preaching, there is fellowship and refreshments after the service, and following this will be our Annual General Meeting. All are welcome to attend the AGM and the more voices for discussion the better!

A reminder - if you have Palm Crosses from last year, please bring them in on Sunday so they can be burned and used for our ashes on Ash Wednesday for our service at 6pm.

During this upcoming season of Lent we will be holding a Book Study on Sunday Afternoons, 4PM, at the Church of St Peter & St Thomas.

We will be reading "Images of Pilgrimage" by Fr R.D. Crouse and exploring ways in which the Spiritual Life has been understood throughout human history as a pilgrimage through the wilderness of this world toward paradise. Looking at ancient pagan sources, the Bible, Dante and others, we will seek to deepen our faith and understanding of the spiritual life and our relationships with one another, and God.

All are welcome, whether you are a member of our church or any church, or of no faith at all. This will be a time of exploring, asking questions, and seeking glimpses of truth, goodness, and beauty in the wilderness of our own lives.

If interested please be in touch so we can order the right amount of books ahead of time!

Come and Sing! All are welcome!

The Parish of Weymouth is seeking singers of all ages who might be interested in exploring the beauty of choral music in a small chamber choir.

Some musical experience and the ability to read music would be preferred.

This is not strictly a typical church choir for Sundays, but rather an open opportunity for anyone who simply wishes for the chance to participate in beauty.

We are seeking those particularly interested in the distinct beauty of ancient, classical, liturgical, and polyphonic choral music, and a desire to share this beauty with our community.

If interested please contact Kalyn Tidd: [email protected]
