A House of Prayer- Sermon Series
What would it look like if prayer wasn’t just something we do, but who we are?
Today we continue our teaching series focused on building a culture of prayer in our church and in our everyday lives. Together, we’ll explore how prayer can become the foundation that shapes our decisions, strengthens our faith, and transforms our community.
“My house will be called a house of prayer.”
Matthew 21:13

Prayer is not an event; it’s a way of life.

One of the greatest misconceptions about prayer is that prayer is something we do rather than a relationship we live in.

For many Christians, prayer becomes:
A quick blessing before meals
A crisis hotline during emergencies
A Sunday activity
A guilty reminder of what we “should” do more often
But Paul gives us something much deeper in this passage. He describes prayer not as an occasional practice but as a continual posture of the heart.

If you would like prayer or have a prayer request, please reach out to us.

Congrats to one of HWC’s own Karen Marr! Thank you for representing Jesus well!

Karen Marr’s 25 years of dedicated service with VON is a remarkable milestone and a true reflection of her unwavering commitment to care, leadership, and community. Beginning her journey on the road as a Registered Nurse in Digby County, Karen built her foundation through hands-on compassion, supporting clients and families where it mattered most—in their homes and communities.
Her passion and leadership quickly became evident as she stepped into the role of Digby Nurse Manager, where she guided teams with confidence, empathy, and a deep understanding of frontline care. Today, as Director of Home & Community Care, Karen continues to lead with both excellence and heart, shaping the future of care delivery while never losing sight of the people at its center.
Karen is known for being exceptionally thorough and organized, ensuring that every detail is considered and every decision is thoughtful. More importantly, she leads with kindness—consistently demonstrating respect, empathy, and genuine care for her colleagues and the clients we serve.
She truly embodies this year’s VON Week theme, “Powered by Compassion.” In every role she has held, Karen has exemplified what it means to lead with purpose and humanity.
Congratulations, Karen, on 25 incredible years. Your impact is deeply felt, and your leadership continues to inspire us all.

“My house will be called a house of prayer.”
Matthew 21:13

A praying people become a transforming people.

Culture is constantly shaping people.
Social media shapes culture. Politics shapes culture. Entertainment shapes culture. Schools shape culture. Workplaces shape culture.
But throughout Scripture, God shows us something powerful:
When His people pray, culture changes.
Not because Christians become louder.
Not because churches become trendier.
But because God responds to humble, repentant, seeking people.
The greatest movements of transformation in history were not born in boardrooms or campaigns — they were born in prayer meetings.

Revival in a church… awakening in a community… healing in families… restoration in hearts… all begin when God’s people pray.
Today we look at one of the clearest revival passages in Scripture:
2 Chronicles 7:14 (CSB)
14 and my people, who bear my name, humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.
