“The storm doesn't build the foundation. It reveals it.”

That was one of Sunday's big ideas. But standing firm does not mean everything around us stays exactly as it was. In Acts 27, Paul trusted God's promise and every person reached shore safely - but the ship was lost.

Sometimes faithfulness looks less like preserving everything and more like knowing what is solid when other things change.

What is something you once thought was essential, but later discovered you could live without?

Happy Labour Day!

There was a lot of talk about building in yesterday's message: digging deep, laying a solid foundation, building according to the standard. And all of it involves something Labour Day knows a little about: work.

Jesus described the wise builder as someone who heard his words and put them into practice. The foundation was laid through choices made before the storm ever arrived.

Most strong foundations in life are built the same way: quietly, over time, through ordinary acts of faithfulness.

So on a day when many of us get a break from our usual labour, here's a lighter question:

What's one job or project you've done that left you especially satisfied when you stood back and looked at the finished result?

What are you building your life on?

This Sunday we finish our Words from the Hill series with one of Jesus' best-known pictures: two builders, two houses, one storm - and two very different outcomes.

Jesus' question is not simply, “Did you hear what I said?” It is, “What are you building with what you heard?”

Join us Sunday at 11:00 am at Westchester Wesleyan, 4611 Wentworth Collingwood Road. Tea and coffee are always on, and there is room for you.

🫐 Apparently today is National Blueberry Popsicle Day.

We're in blueberry country, so it would almost be irresponsible not to acknowledge it. 😄

On Sunday we talked about Jesus' words:

“By their fruit you will recognize them.”

Our lives produce fruit too. Over time, what is happening inside us starts showing up on the outside.

So here's today's question:

🌳 What's one quality you hope people experience more of because you follow Jesus?

Kindness? Patience? Generosity? Peace? Faithfulness? Something else?

Drop yours in the comments. 👇

And if you're eating a blueberry popsicle while answering, we will consider that entirely appropriate. 🫐

🥾 Yesterday Jesus challenged us to think about the road we're travelling:

Where have I mistaken what is NORMAL for what is RIGHT?

The broad road has a lot going for it. It's popular. It's comfortable. Everybody seems to be heading that way.

But following Jesus sometimes means choosing a different path.

And since today is National Eat Outside Day, maybe this is a good day to take your lunch or coffee outside, enjoy the last stretch of summer, and ponder a question:

🌿 What's one way following Jesus has led you to do something differently than the people around you?

It can be something big or something very ordinary.

TRUE or FALSE? 🤔

Sometimes the things we're most certain about aren't quite as true as we thought.

Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount with some uncomfortable warnings about the road we travel, the voices we trust, and even our own relationship with Him.

This Sunday in Words from the Hill, we're asking:

➡️ Where am I going?
🌳 What is my life producing?
❤️ Do I actually know Jesus?

Because what looks true isn't always true. Following Jesus means knowing and living the truth.

Someone found the sidewalk chalk! 🎨☀️
I was away for a couple of days and when I got back to the church, I discovered a little extra colour had appeared on the sidewalk. We love it!
The chalk is there for YOU, so if you’re walking by, waiting for someone, or just feel like adding a little creativity to the neighbourhood, grab a piece and leave us a picture, a message, or a bit of colour.
And if you spot some sidewalk art already there, feel free to add to it. Let’s see what our community can create together! 🖍️🌈

Some prayers are answered quickly.

Others leave us asking.
And seeking.
And knocking.

What do we do when we've prayed and we're still waiting? Do we keep asking? Does persistence mean God isn't listening? And can we trust God's goodness when the answer isn't the one we expected?

This Sunday we continue Words From the Hill, our journey through Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, with His invitation:

Ask. Seek. Knock.

Join us Sunday at 11:00 AM at Westchester Wesleyan Church
