[June 14, 2026: Working Together Through Wind and Rain—Waterloo Subchapter Successfully Support Vegetarian Good Fair – Report by Subchapter President Li Li] The Waterloo Subchapter successfully participated in the annual Vegetarian Food Fair at the Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto. Due to weather conditions, the event was moved indoors at the last minute. Faced with these unexpected changes, members remained undeterred; instead, they grew even more united, serving the public with joyful hearts. A total of 19 volunteers from the Waterloo Chapter participated in the event. Working together in harmony on preparations and sales, they coordinated and supported one another, fully embodying the spirit of collective effort. In addition to the charity sale, our members also supported the mobile team by directing traffic, fully demonstrating their dedication. Although the weather was less than ideal, the volunteers remained undeterred by wind and rain, their enthusiasm undiminished, and they successfully completed their tasks together, adding warmth and vitality to the fair. This event not only strengthened the cohesion among members and volunteers but also showcased the members’ positive, optimistic spirit and dedication to service in the face of change. 【Jun 6, 2026 the 5th Dharma Sharing Session - The Heart Sutra in Daily Life】Special thanks to our Guiding Venerable, Venerable Zhiguan, for offering us another wonderful Dharma Sharing session on the Heart Sutra today! Today, one of the many inspiring thoughts embedded in this sutra that venerable had shared with us was that:

1. We shouldn't misunderstand emptiness as nothingness; rather, it refers to the continuity, the dependent origination of every things.

2. Karma, craving, grasping are the cause of life cycle. As The Saṃyukta-āgama suggests, through understanding the law of cause and effect and contemplating impermance, dispassion, and cessation in life, one can eventually have no attachment and able to let go.

3. Buddha preached the Four Noble Truth in his three turning of the Dharma Wheel, and presented with its 12 aspects. Intriguingly, the Heart Sutra reminds us that there is no Four Noble Truth, no path, no wisdom, and no attainment. Venerable clarified that "it doesn't mean there is nothing to attain, but it just reminds us not attached to the attainment."

We have ended our great Dharma Session today with small group discussions. Everyone seemed feeling the joy of Dharma learning 😊

【5月4日 佛光山人間佛教研究院代表團來臨滑鐵盧佛光緣，對未來發展意義深遠】佛光山人間佛教研究院院長妙凡法師、副院長妙光法師、AI 研究專才有在法師、佛光山人間佛教研究員西北大学王雪梅教授、美國UCLA大學佛教研究博士生王一帆，一行5人於5月4日上午來到滑鐵盧佛光緣。主持覺凡法師與輔導法師知觀法師，特別安排了代表團與資深心理輔導教授與社會服務機構管理專業的 Dr. Neta Deonarain-Gear進行了座談，探討如何將人間佛教的理念更深入地融入社區服務，特別是在心理健康支持的領域。下午代表團馬不停蹄到Wilfred Laurier大學Martin Luther University College 訪問 ，就佛教和社會關懷、心靈咨詢服務專案，和該學院院長Rev. Dr. Kristine Lund、助理教授兼社區牧師Rev Anne Anderson、佛教研究學者Dr Mitra Barua 等多位學者及教職員進行深度交流。彼此都認同多元宗教合作的重要意義，並肯定佛教對現代心理治療、精神關懷的高度價值。

【April 24, 2026 Rockway Menonite collegiate Students Visiting WBLC】On this lovely sunny day, the students from Rockway Menonite collegiate visited WBLC. Venerable Zhiguan has planned a fruitful experience for them, including a video introduction of Fo Guang Shan, our great Master Hsing Yun, and our Toronto temple. It was followed by a short meditation experience which all students seemed to be very much interested. Then Venerable demonstrated different dharma instruments in the main shrine. Some students were very engaging in the Q&A session; for instance, one student asked question about the two warrior statues. Their teacher Kristen Mathies also asked a good question about the core meaning of Diamond Sutra. At the end, Spiritual Care leader Stephanie Hong let each student and the teacher to pick a card from Master's Positive Forecasts for Life. This visit was ended with a sharing of some Buddhist wisdom, a little fun, and lot of beautiful smiles.

Today, Wilfrid Laurier University's Faculty of Social Work has organized a Community Agency Fair. The organizer Professor Michelle Skop has invited WBLC to participate. Our guiding venerable Ven. Zhiguan and our spiritual care group leader and psychotherapist Stephanie Hong led our wonderful team of volunteers to put together a great presentation and join this event.The event was a great success🎉 Our volunteers had the opportunity to introduce Fo Guang Shan Temple of Toronto, Buddha's Light Centre Waterloo, and our services to visitors and the participating eight community organizations. We also gave visitors at the community booths a chance to draw one of Master Hsing Yun's 108 Life Fortune Telling Cards. Everyone was happy to receive a little wisdom and quite some of them expressed that the descriptions were incredibly accurate! Following the guidance of our great Master, WBLC will continue the community outreach initiatives and let the BuddhaDharma reach the general public!

【Our new series of well-received "Dharma Sharing Sessions" is here again! 】This afternoon, we are honour to invited Ven. Zhiguan to lead our new series of Dharma Sharing sessions offered to the local community. What make this series extra special is that it is focused on one of the most important and frequently recited sutras in Mahayana Buddhism, the Heart Sutra. Despite being only 260 Chinese characters, it condenses the vast 600-volume Perfection of Wisdom literature into an accessible, daily practice that teaches wisdom, compassion, and the nature of reality. In this first session, Ven. Zhiguan gave a great introduction about the text, Master Xuanzang's translation, and more. More fascinating thoughts embedded in this beautiful sutra and their application in the daily life will be discussed in future sessions and you won't want to miss that!
