Make-A-Difference Market

Make-A-Difference Market CGUC Peace Society supports local and fair-trade vendors and charities with an annual "Make-A-Difference" (MAD) Market around Christmas Time. Why Fair Trade?

Every year the student Peace Society at Conrad Grebel hosts a Christmas Market at the University of Waterloo. This is our way of giving back to our community by supporting local and fair trade vendors and raising money for charity. We have donated to charities and organizations such as Mennonite Coalition for Refugee Support, the Woodland Cultural Centre, Mary's Place, and the Working Centre. Conr

Fair Trade is a market-based system that uses informed consumer support to influence international trade practices toward greater social and environmental sustainability. Conventional trade systems have done a good job at undermining the producers of many consumer goods in developing countries. As a response to these conventional systems, fair trade aims to build an alternative approach based on mutually beneficial relationships between producers and consumers. You might have seen the Fair Trade label on your Cadbury Dairymilk bar, or noticed stores like Ten Thousand Villages on your bus ride uptown. As consumers become more conscious of where their money goes, fair trade grows. Visit wfto.com for more on fair trade.
