"Our hearts are restless until they rest in You, O Lord."

On Aug. 28, we honour St. Augustine of Hippo, one of the greatest saints and Doctors of the Church. Born in North Africa in 354, Augustine spent much of his youth searching for truth before experiencing a profound conversion through the prayers of his mother, St. Monica, and the grace of God.

As Bishop of Hippo, he became a brilliant theologian whose writings, especially Confessions and The City of God, continue to inspire Christians around the world.

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of St. Augustine, grant us hearts that seek You above all else. Help us to turn away from sin, embrace Your truth, and grow in faith, hope, and love each day. May our lives bear witness to Your mercy and lead others to Christ. Amen.

On Aug. 24, the Church joyfully celebrates St. Bartholomew, Apostle, one of the Twelve chosen by Jesus Christ.

After the Resurrection and Pentecost, St. Bartholomew courageously proclaimed the Gospel in distant lands, including Armenia, India, Mesopotamia, and other regions.

Through his fearless preaching, many came to know and believe in Christ. His unwavering faith ultimately led to his martyrdom, and he is honored as a powerful witness to the Gospel and the hope of eternal life.

St. Bartholomew reminds us that discipleship begins with a personal encounter with Jesus and grows through faithful witness, even in the face of suffering. May his example inspire us to proclaim Christ with courage, integrity, and joyful hearts wherever we are called to serve.

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of St. Bartholomew, grant us the grace to follow Your Son with faithful hearts, proclaim the Gospel with courage, and remain steadfast in our love for You. May our lives bear witness to Christ each day. Amen.

On Aug. 15 the Church joyfully celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

We rejoice in the Church's belief that, at the end of her earthly life, the Blessed Virgin Mary was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory. This glorious mystery reminds us of God's promise of eternal life and the hope of the Resurrection that awaits all who faithfully follow Christ.

As the Mother of God and Mother of the Church, Mary continues to intercede for her children with tender love. Her humble "yes" to God's will and her unwavering fidelity to Christ make her the perfect model of discipleship. In her Assumption, we see the fulfillment of God's saving plan and a sign of the glory to which all the faithful are called.

Heavenly Father, through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, assumed into heaven, strengthen our faith, deepen our hope, and fill our hearts with love for Your Son. May we faithfully follow Christ each day until we share in the joy of eternal life with You. Amen.

On August 10, the Church celebrates St. Lawrence, Deacon and Martyr, one of the seven deacons of the Church of Rome who served under Pope Sixtus II in the third century.

Entrusted with the care of the Church's material goods, he dedicated himself to serving the poor, widows, and orphans with extraordinary charity. After Pope Sixtus II was martyred in 258, Lawrence was arrested and ordered to surrender the Church's treasures.

Instead, he presented the poor, declaring, "These are the treasures of the Church."

For his steadfast faith and fearless witness to Christ, he was condemned to a cruel martyrdom, remaining faithful to the very end. May the witness of St. Lawrence inspire us to recognize Christ in the poor, serve with generosity, and remain steadfast in faith.

Today, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, when Jesus revealed His divine glory to Peter, James, and John on Mount Tabor. His face shone like the sun, and His garments became dazzling white, while the Father proclaimed, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him." (Matthew 17:5)

The Transfiguration strengthens our faith by reminding us that beyond the trials of this life lies the glory of the Resurrection. As the disciples witnessed Christ's majesty, may we also be transformed by His grace, listen attentively to His voice, and reflect His light through lives of holiness, charity, and hope.

Lord Jesus, radiant in glory upon the holy mountain, transform our hearts by Your grace. Help us to listen to Your voice, remain faithful in times of trial, and reflect Your light in all that we do. May our lives always lead others closer to You. Amen.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Saints Anne and Joachim, the grandparents of Jesus, whose faithful witness reminds us of the vital role grandparents play in passing on faith, hope, and love from one generation to the next.

We also mark the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, whose 2026 theme, chosen by Pope Leo XIV, is: "I will never forget you" (Isaiah 49:15). This beautiful promise reminds us that God's love never fails, especially in the fragility of old age. It is also a call for families, parishes, and communities to ensure that no grandparent or elderly person feels forgotten or alone.

Loving God, we thank You for the gift of grandparents and the elderly, whose wisdom, faith, and love enrich our lives. Through the intercession of Saints Anne and Joachim, bless them with health, peace, joy, and the comfort of Your abiding presence.

Help us to honour, cherish, and never forget them, reflecting Your promise: "I will never forget you." May we always recognize their dignity and surround them with love. Amen.
