The earliest record of the Parish of Crapaud is found in an account in the PEI Register of August 30, 1825. The account records the news that a small chapel is to be built by subscription by the residents of Crapaud and its neighbourhood. The Chapel was to be for the use of Christians of all persuasions – the established church (The Church of England) to have preference. Construction for the English Church in Crapaud began in 1841. This was made possible by the Countess of Westmorland who was dubbed “its Mother”. She gave 60 acres of land to the parish, a gift of ₤200, and outfitted the Sanctuary with Communion vessels, church linens and hangings and service books.. Other donors included; The Society for Propagation of the Gospel made a grant of ₤150. In 1901 the cornerstone for this current place of worship was laid and the first service was held in the new church in 1902. This building was designed by the famed Island architect, William Critchlow Harris and is an example of his attention to beauty, function, and acoustics. Building churches became both a specialty and a passion for Harris. He drew upon the Victorian Gothic revival but went on to develop his own distinctive style which enabled him to design churches pleasing to the soul, mind, heart and ear. An amateur violinist, Harris regarded his churches as large musical instruments where the structure was to enable all participants and instruments to be heard and thus enhance the worship experience. The Parish came to be known as "The Parish of St. John the Evangelist" and included St. Thomas' Church in Long Creek and St. Elizabeth's Church in Springfield. Some of the early rectors included; Rev. Herbert Reid (1843), Rev. Parnther (1854), Rev. Sterns (1869), Rev. Sargent (1869). On a few occasions the church was under the care of the Archdeacon until a successive rector was appointed. The long and illustrious life of the church was made possible because of the dedication of the parishioners who have always remained engaged in its operations and viability. Wardens:

What a wonderful afternoon of bluegrass music here in PEI. A sincere thank you to The Stiff Family and Bluestreak for generously sharing their time and talent in support of the Society’s fundraising concert.
We extend our sincere thanks to Tim Hortons for generously donating the coffee, and to our volunteers who provided cookies, squares, other goodies, and assisted with ticket sales. We are especially grateful to Charlie and Noreen Sherren for graciously hosting the event at their beautiful venue, The Barn Floor on the Sherren Family Farm in Crapaud - a true hidden gem in the countryside.
On behalf of the PEI Bluegrass Society, thank you to everyone who attended. Your support helps make it possible for our board of volunteers to host the upcoming festival in Dundas.

We look forward to welcoming you July 3–5 in Dundas. Join us for the full weekend or come for a day and enjoy great performances by The Stiff Family and Bluestreak plus, Ray Legere & Acoustic Horizon, The Spinney Brothers, Janet McGarry, and many more.

Tobin Stetson of Rice Point Farms has officially been farming since 2016, but in reality he's felt like a farmer since he was 10 years old. Tobin works alongside his wife Ellen and their children Gus, Lou and Elsie to grow soybeans, wheat, barley and sweet corn.
Rice Point Farms has been committed to sustainable farming practices for several years, and has been participating in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) since the program began. "The OFCAF program has been crucial in providing financial incentives, and the PEIFA has been great to work with and provide advice to farms looking to expand or adopt new practices on PEI".

Today is Good Friday…
and everything feels heavy

Not quiet in a peaceful way
but quiet like something is missing
like the world is holding its breath

Because this is the day
love didn’t look victorious

It looked like loss

It looked like a mother watching her son suffer
like friends standing at a distance
not knowing what to do
not able to stop it

It looked like prayers that felt unanswered
like hope slipping through fingers
like the kind of grief
that makes your chest ache

And He didn’t stop it

Jesus didn’t step down
He didn’t call angels
He didn’t rewrite the moment

He stayed

And I think that’s what undoes me the most

Because He knew

He knew how it would feel
He knew what it would cost
He knew the weight of it

And still

He chose to stay

For the ones who would run
For the ones who would doubt
For the ones who would forget

For me

So today isn’t light

It’s not pretty
It’s not easy

It’s the kind of day
that reminds you death is real

that loss is real

that sometimes you stand there
loving someone
and there is nothing you can do to save them

But this day

this painful
heavy
unbearable day

is not pointless

Because this is the day
love proved
it would go all the way

All the way into suffering
All the way into death
All the way into the grave

And if love was willing to go that far

then maybe

just maybe

it’s strong enough
to meet us there too

Today is Good Friday

And it doesn’t feel good

But it is

Because Jesus didn’t walk away

He stayed.

On this Palm Sunday, I felt Spirit’s call to rerun this piece. May it rest on your heart today…..

Beloved Lord
I gaze upon your holy countenance
Trying to imagine how it would have felt
Walking by your side
Thousands of years ago
As you made your way toward
A triumphant return to Jerusalem….

Would I have understood your message?
Would I have offered you comfort?
Would I have denied you?
Would I have betrayed you?
Would I have loved you?

Those answers forever lost
To all but you….

However

These same questions have become a guide
For my spiritual journey today….

Have I shared your message of love with others today?
Have I offered comfort to my brothers and sisters today?
Have I confirmed your presence in my life today?
Have my actions been true to your teachings today?
Have I loved you with a fiery spirit today?

With your grace and counsel
The answer will be yes…….

~Jeanette

Special thanks to my dear friend, Sunita Richter, for her incredible piece of artwork that inspired my writing today.
