130 new affordable homes are coming soon for independent seniors and people with disabilities in Duncan, with construction underway at 162 First St.

A new six-storey apartment building owned by the Duncan Housing Society is under construction on land leased from the Anglican Synod of The Diocese of British Columbia. The new apartment building, which is being built around the existing St. John’s church will provide 130 one-bedroom homes, 23 of which will be fully accessible.

Construction is currently underway with the building expected to be completed in the latter half of 2028.

Rainbow Haven was the vision of Emel, a young gay Gambian man who came to Canada in 2019 after spending time at a safe house set up by a St. John the Divine Anglican Church parishioner. Now St. John's and Christ Church Cathedral, Victoria, BC are helping to realize Emel's vision and extend the same lifeline to other LGBTQ+ asylum seekers.
