James Bay United Church

James Bay United Church We are a Christian community from many walks of life growing in trust that God is up to something beautiful here and now, in and through our lives.

James Bay United Church is a community striking for its diversity. We are made up of people following in the way of Jesus on the journey inward and the journey outward. We are discovering once again that our vitality grows when our love reaches wide and our commitment is to serve the well-being of the neighbourhood. It’s happening, for example
- through the ministry of our thrift shop,
- in our ga

thering for Sunday worship,
- at our Tuesday morning neighbourhood breakfast,
- in our partnering with others to sponsor refugees. As our connections widen and our friendships deepen, we are experiencing a sense of the abundant community that God dreams for all people. If this calls to you we welcome your companionship.

Sunday Worship Service, September 6, 10:30–11:30 am

The lectionary reading this week includes a teaching from Jesus about conflict resolution. The advice still stands. Conflict is one of life’s guarantees, but it doesn’t have to be a source of discomfort and it certainly doesn’t have to end relationships. In fact, conflict might be a requisite ingredient for the richest of relationships. But we have to manage it well by acknowledging shared and diverging interests, and we have to desire the best for another person.

Please note that our Sunday Service begins at 10:30. You are warmly invited to gather with us from 10:15 am, in our Sanctuary or online, for a time of musical reflection.

COMMUNITY LUNCH NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

As some of you may know, we recently lost our beloved Jo, whom we miss terribly. Her absence is deeply felt, and our Community Lunch team is now especially short of volunteers.

If you’re able to commit your time on Wednesdays from 12 to 2:30 pm and help our incredible chef, John, in the church kitchen, we desperately need you! It is such an honour to have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of 60–70 local community members each week.

Please contact Joanne Keelan at [email protected], or speak with her at a Sunday service, if you would like to be part of it.

Seniors Climate Witness is a cross-Canada e-caravan led by seniors for a week of public witness in Ottawa (September 19–24, 2026) to urge the federal government to fund the future, not pipelines.

Across Canada, seniors are preparing to travel to Ottawa to take part in a national public witness and call for climate action. Others along the way are preparing to host, organise, donate, and welcome the caravans in their own communities.

Our church is following and supporting this initiative through our Social and Climate Justice Ministry.

If this speaks to you, visit the Seniors Climate Witness page to learn how you can join the initiative or contribute.

You can also join the next national bilingual online information session:
Wednesday, September 2
5–6 pm PT / 8–9 pm ET / 9–10 pm AT

Sunday Worship Service, August 30, 10:30–11:30 am

"When we’re tired of waiting, God Is still working."

Jeremiah 15:15–21 reminds us that being exhausted doesn’t mean we’ve lost our faith. Through Jeremiah’s honest struggle of waiting through difficult seasons, we are reminded to trust God’s timing, even when it doesn’t match our own. God may seem late to us, but He is never late — He is always working.

Please note that our Sunday Service begins at 10:30. You are warmly invited to gather with us from 10:15 am, in our Sanctuary or online, for a time of musical reflection.

BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS!

Our Charlotte Caron has been downsizing — and has too many books of poetry that she has written. So this Sunday at coffee she will have a table of books to give away to anyone who likes birds, poetry and photos.

The books are free but if you want to make a donation to our Community Lunch when you take a book that would be gratefully received.
