Bring the whole family! 🍎🍯

Join Rabbi Ilana for a Rosh Hashanah Family Service on Sunday, September 13 at 10:00 AM — a short, family-friendly service full of songs, stories, and shofar blowing to welcome the New Year, followed by apples and honey.

Bubbies, Zaidies, Moms, Dads, and little ones are all welcome — this event is open to the whole community, no membership or ticket required.

Proud moment for our community! Rabbi Ilana Krygier Lapides was featured in the local paper this week with a beautiful reflection on Sukkot as we head into the High Holidays.

In "The arrival of the holiday of Sukkot, and two types of people," Rabbi Ilana talks about how the flimsy, temporary huts we build for Sukkot carry a surprisingly steadying message for an unsteady time. She reminds us that whether we're planners or people who go with the flow, change is the one constant. And that's exactly where the invitation to joy lives.

She points out that thousands of years after the fall of one of the sturdiest buildings in history, the Temple in Jerusalem, we're still building Sukkot every year — flimsy, yes, but also easy to put back up.

🌟 Meet Our Rabbi: Rabbi Ilana Krygier Lapides 🌟

Kolot Mayim is thrilled to welcome Rabbi Ilana, who joined us this summer as our new spiritual leader!

A born-and-raised Calgarian and granddaughter of four Holocaust survivors, Rabbi Ilana brings a lifetime of Jewish communal leadership to Victoria — from directing programs at the Calgary JCC and BBYO, to teaching Yiddish, to leading Holocaust education for Calgary Jewish Federation, to serving as Jewish Community Chaplain and Assistant Rabbi at Beth Tzedec Congregation. She received her S'micha from the Jewish Spiritual Leaders Institute in 2020, fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Rabbi Ilana lives with her husband David and their very pampered dog. When she's not leading services, you'll find her reading, singing, playing piano, cracking bad jokes, or working on her baritone ukulele skills!

We're so grateful she's part of the Kolot Mayim family. 💙
