The BC Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) is proud to announce its 19th annual Food Drive.

In the Greater Victoria area, donation pick-up/drop-off will be held Saturday September 19,
2026.

The BCTFD has a rich history of community involvement and generosity, demonstrating
the power of collective action in addressing food insecurity.

We invite everyone to
participate—whether by volunteering, donating food, or contributing financially. Every effort counts in making a difference in the lives of those who rely on food banks for support.

Church Partners With Local Organizations to Support Wildfire Relief in British Columbia

As devastating wildfires continue to sweep across British Columbia, forcing more than 20,000 people from their homes and prompting a provincial state of emergency, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has committed $225,000 in emergency assistance to local organizations providing frontline services to affected individuals and families.

Under the direction of the Canada Area Presidency, the Church is helping to address urgent humanitarian needs through emergency donations of:

$150,000 to the Salvation Army British Columbia Division
$50,000 to the Community Foundation North Okanagan (CFNO)
$25,000 to the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB).

Together, these organizations are providing emergency shelter, food, supplies and emotional support to individuals and families impacted by the fires.

𝐀 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲

The earth has been broken, and the work has begun.

As we reflect on the groundbreaking of the Victoria British Columbia Temple, we are reminded that this sacred place will be more than a beautiful building. It will be a beacon to the community—a place of peace, hope, faith, and connection to Jesus Christ.

During the groundbreaking, Elder James Evanson shared a powerful quote from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland about the meaning of breaking the earth for a temple to be built:

“That’s the story of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It takes broken clouds to nourish the earth. It takes broken earth to nourish grain. It takes broken grain to make bread, broken bread to nourish us . . . Things are broken in order to be whole, in order to give life. And the most precious broken thing of all was the broken heart of the Son of God.”

As the ground is prepared for the temple, may we also prepare our hearts.

Just as this earth will be transformed into a holy place, may our lives be transformed through Jesus Christ. And may this temple, when completed, stand as a beacon of light and faith for generations to come. 💙

A Day We Will Remember 🤍

Under a clear blue sky, many gathered at the temple site for a moment that was prayed for, fasted for and never to be forgotten.

As people entered the site and took their seats, there was a quiet reverence in the air. The talks shared throughout the ceremony centered on Jesus Christ and the peace, hope, and strength that comes from the House of the Lord.

Then came the moment when the ground was turned.

Shovel after shovel, the earth was turned over as honoured guests were invited to take part in this historic occasion. Those gathered watched with reverence, many waiting patiently for their own opportunity to hold a shovel and physically participate in this significant moment.

It was a day filled with gratitude, anticipation, and peace.

A day when we felt the Spirit of the Lord.

And a day we will remember as the beginning of the Victoria British Columbia Temple. 🤍
