Honouring Mothers and Motherly Love

On Mother’s Day, we honour our mothers, mother figures, grandmothers, women caregivers, and everyone who has touched our lives with compassion, care, and motherly love.

For some, this day brings joy; for others, it may carry longing, grief, or mixed emotions. Our hearts are with those who have lost their mothers, those who long to become mothers, those who have lost a child, and everyone who faces challenges on the journey of motherhood.

As the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, taught us, honouring one’s mother is one of the most beautiful values of our faith and moral life.

We were honored to welcome Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow to our Embrace Islamic Society Iftar evening. During her visit, she warmly greeted families and spent time at our special Ramadan Market prepared for children, sharing in the joy and excitement of the young guests.

In her remarks, she also took a moment to celebrate International Women’s Day, recognizing and congratulating all the women who joined the evening. It was a beautiful moment that reflected the spirit of respect, appreciation, and togetherness that Ramadan brings to our community.
