Happy Thanksgiving, Canada! 🍁

On this day of gratitude, we reflect on the countless blessings bestowed upon us — from the peace and freedom we enjoy, to the opportunities to serve our neighbours and our nation.

Islam teaches that true thankfulness extends beyond words, it is expressed through service, compassion, and generosity.

As the Holy Qur’an reminds us:

“If you are grateful, I will surely bestow more favours upon you.”

Today, we give thanks by remembering those in need, by fostering unity among our communities, and by striving to be a source of peace and positivity for all.

“I’ve had the opportunity to do French translation at Jalsa Salana for over 10 years. For me as a translator, it’s a huge responsibility because people are here to listen to the speeches, and we are a means to convey that knowledge for them in their own language.

Translators receive speeches beforehand, so if the speakers follow what they wrote, it’s a blessing for us. But sometimes, with all respect, when speakers don’t completely follow what’s written, it’s a bit of a challenge, but over time, you learn and get better at following the presenter.

I started this duty in the UK and have been continuing in Canada since 2018. I’ve had some very memorable moments, often when Hazrat Khalifatul Masih visited translators after Jalsa sessions. I always cherish those interactions and they create a blessed experience for translators.”

“For 15 years, I’ve experienced Jalsa through the lens of service—every call, every setup, every quiet sacrifice behind the scenes. But this year, sitting in the crowd, just listening — it felt like discovering Jalsa all over again. The speeches, the prayers, the sisterhood— I finally felt the spiritual heartbeat I’ve helped support for so long. Alhamdulillah, it was worth the wait.”

“This is my fourth year serving on the audio-visual team at Jalsa and every year it feels like I’m coming home.

For as long as I can remember, my father has led the audio-visual department for Canada and seeing his passion for serving the Jama’at inspired me to step up as well. From a young age, he showed us that giving back to the community is one of the most meaningful things you can do. I could see the excitement on his face and throughout the household during the weeks that led up to Jalsa Salana. This drove me to try and find where I could give back.

Working in audio coordination is not always easy. It can get hectic and you have to stay calm under pressure. Making sure no zones are failing, everything is on time and all the voices and sounds are heard clearly takes focus and punctuality. But despite the challenges, it’s incredibly rewarding.

What makes it all worth it is the sense of community. Everyone is here with the same goal: to serve for the sake of Allah. Watching people from so many backgrounds come together, working day and night with such dedication, reminds me why I keep coming back. It’s a beautiful, emotional, and deeply fulfilling experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.”

“From a young age, I was blessed to grow up in an environment where service to the Jama’at was not just encouraged — it was a way of life. My parents and family members were actively involved in various Jama’at responsibilities and witnessing their unwavering commitment left a lasting impression on me. Whether it was attending meetings, organizing events, or simply offering a helping hand behind the scenes, their dedication modeled for me the true meaning of sincerity and sacrifice for the sake of Allah. Being surrounded by that atmosphere of service nurtured a deep sense of responsibility in me from early on.

As I grew older, that influence translated into a personal desire to contribute meaningfully, in whatever capacity I could. Alhamdulillah, during my university years, I was entrusted with the responsibility of being in charge of a Jalsa department. Being given such a role while still a student was both an honour and a significant learning opportunity. Balancing academic life with Jama’at responsibilities was challenging, but through that experience, I learned valuable skills in time management, communication, and leadership. More importantly, I learned how to rely on prayer and teamwork to move forward - principles that have served me in many aspects of life.”

“With PAAMA, I’m the Lajna president. This year we had PAAMA international guests from Ghana and PAAMA Lajna members from New Brunswick, Ottawa, Montreal, and other parts of Canada. It’s such a happy moment to have them right here with us. It’s like we brought Ghana to Canada. I’m privileged to serve them and make them feel at home as well.

This year’s Jalsa has been an amazing experience for me. From the speeches yesterday on the ladies’ side, the speech on ‘haya’ (modesty) really resonated with my personal experience at work. It was very encouraging to hear that we are not alone and that Allah is always with us.

The topic on marriage from our respected Sadr Sahiba was inspiring, especially the reminders about the importance of taqwa in marriage.

Alhamdulillah, I will say Jalsa is soul-inspiring, based on my experience here.”
