I cry in prayer for help…

“I wait for Your word.”

God knows what you are going to encounter today and He will give you “clues” in how to handle it.
-The peace He gave you about a decision you asked Him how to handle before you stepped out your door.
-The verse He gave you that really stood out - it’s probably the answer for how to handle what’s happening today. Be careful not to disregard its simplicity.
-Only deal with today-leave tomorrow alone. If He wants you to do something today that affects tomorrow, ask Him what that task is and let His peace give you the answer. Don’t worry past that task (this is where trusting Him without knowing an answer comes in).

So much symbolism in these verses but walk with me down one perspective.
How often do we try to cover our sin and pretend it’s not an issue or need to be dealt with? We continue with the more visible appearance of spirituality for others to see but Jesus is saying, “let me cleanse you.”
We put on an airs of self righteousness and appearance of humility but Jesus breaks through all the religion and says, “I want to wash you clean. I want you to be free!”

What are you hiding from Jesus that you are excusing but You know He’s been saying, “I want to free you from this. Let me wash you clean.”
Beloved, surrender to His overwhelming love for you.
Remember, He’s not condemning you (Rom 8:1). Don’t read into it like that.
He wants you to trust Him that on the other side of what you’re holding onto is the peace and freedom you’ve been praying to receive.
Don’t justify.
Don’t try to handle it on your own.
Let the Master wash you clean.
Remember, He is so in love with you!

Trusting His faithfulness brings strength and comfort and ultimately allows you to have an unshakable hope.
Does that mean you know all the answers? No
Does that mean you have a clear view of what’s ahead? Not necessarily.
Does that mean that your trust is in Someone higher, greater and more powerful than yourself? Absolutely!

Lay it all out for Him and ask Him for help to trust Him in what you’re walking through.
Remember the words of the Scripture below: “He empowers us.”
Rely on Him and His faithfulness today.

No matter what you’ve done. No matter how frustrated you are with yourself, He’s still faithful and He’s not walking away from you. He will sit with you to give you hope and encourage you in the path forward.

“Give me a teachable heart”

For so long I tried to prove to God that I could be good enough for Him. Prayer, worship, Bible study, clean up my life from all the “little sins”. But there was always a never ending list of things I needed to fix about myself and it was discouraging and overwhelming. No matter how much I tried or how many “steps” or “methods” I learned to achieve perfection, I never attained peace.
Until I gave up trying and melted into a puddle of failure before Him.
“Why are you trying to succeed without me?” Was His question. “Apart from Me, you can do nothing.”
But I honestly thought I was doing it through Him but it was just methods of learning to train success as a Christian…Try hard and eventually you’ll be good enough…but it never worked.

He encouraged me to try something different: Relationship.

He encouraged me to ask Him to teach me His voice…to be intentional. Just Him, me, and the Bible so I could learn His voice. Through this time, He started revealing His character to me.
When I failed, He showed me such overwhelming love. He reminded me of hope and then encouraged me in the path forward that He and I would walk together.
When I stressed, He showed me His truth.

I stopped relying on myself and started relying on Him. I know He loves it when I say “Father, will you give me a teachable heart, even though I currently want nothing to do with choosing Your Godly character right now.” He knows the struggle and He doesn’t fault me for it.

As I spend time with Him, He will change my heart.
My thoughts start to change and I see things from the other persons perspective.
He gives me compassion.
He gives me peace.
He then restores my joy.

He desires relationship. Pure, raw, heart to heart relationship. Bring all the ugly. He’s AMAZING at turning it into something beautiful.

Control.

As humans, we desire it, thinking it will bring us happiness and fulfillment. But it’s a never ending hole that only ever brings death: resentment, bitterness, anger, hatred, chaos, stress, illness….

We know this, yet we still want it.
Why?
Because it feeds our selfishness.
Our human nature craves it and the world says you deserve it and need it.

There is a better way, yet it does come at a cost. It means my selfishness must die because it might not get its way.

What’s the better way?

Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Yes, yes, such a familiar passage, right?! 😉
On the day God was revealing my selfishness to me, He highlighted 3 of the words Jesus said:

“learn from me.”

He knows I’m gonna mess up! He knows I want to choose control. He knows I want others to just listen to me. He knows. And that’s why He says “learn from me.” As we walk this path together and a situation comes up, He will speak to my heart His ways. Do I jump for joy at the opportunity to let my selfishness go?
Mm, no.
But I do know what choosing control has got me in the past so instead, I say to Him “would you soften my heart towards this person…because I really want to choose my own way.”
I never need to fake it with Him. Why would I?
He already told me He is gentle and that He wants me to learn from Him. So I come to Him as the real me-issues and all.

So remember, He’s not judging you for your failures and your desire to choose selfishness. He’s offering you a life out of that pit of stress and chaos.
Talk to Him.

Human ability is limited.

Don’t be surprised at your human limitations and your ability to fail or tire.
He didn’t create you to depend upon yourself. Rather, depend and constantly need HIS ability. Don’t depend on yourself until you finally fail and only then reach for His help as if He expected you to make it on your own to gain His approval.
HE is your Saviour.
One last reminder: when you think He gets frustrated with you and your failures, remember, He does not grow tired or weary…that includes His relationship with you. I know it doesn’t make sense because we tire and get so frustrated with ourselves…how could He not?
Isaiah 40:28 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth does NOT become tired or grow weary; there is no searching of His understanding.”

Beloved, you are loved. Believe it, because it’s the truth.

Are you walking through something right now that has taken the wind out of your sails?
Maybe it came out of no where like a sucker punch.
Maybe it’s a constant battle.
Maybe it’s a pain that often resurfaces…and today it’s back.

There is a line in this song that says “Jesus, could you please just sit and cry with me ‘til I can sing.”

Roman’s 12:15 “…and weep with those who weep-sharing others’ grief.”

If you are in this place today, remember, He will sit and cry with you. He will walk with you through the pain. He’s not telling you to “get over it” or “you should be stronger”.
No, there’s no condemnation.
He will sit with you through this…all the way “til you can sing.”
