Or Shalom Synagogue

Or Shalom Synagogue For the: seeker/meditator/Jew-curious/environmentalist/activist/open-hearted. We are creative, egalitarian, traditional and participatory.

Or Shalom is a Jewish spiritual community affiliated with ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal. Or Shalom is a Jewish Renewal synagogue that focuses on a welcoming, egalitarian, hands-on approach to Jewish worship and community. We encourage mixing both traditional and feminist ideals. We embrace lessons from diverse spiritual traditions, like Jewish meditative practices, and support a spiritual eco

logy, relating Jewish practices to both political as well as ecological action. We define ourselves as transdenominational, and invite Jews from all aspects of the greater Jewish community to reconnect, learn, and celebrate together. Check out our calendar of events: http://orshalom.ca/events

We are honoured and excited to welcome Rabbi Tirzah Firestone—renowned teacher, author, and psychotherapist—for a deeply transformative Shabbaton devoted to healing across generations.

Drawing on the insights of her groundbreaking work, Wounds into Wisdom, Rabbi Tirzah brings a rare and extraordinary capacity to guide individuals and communities through the sacred work of transforming inherited pain into sources of strength, clarity, and compassion. As a gifted spiritual guide and facilitator, she weaves together Jewish wisdom, psychological insight, and embodied practice in ways that are both deeply accessible and profoundly healing.

Jewish tradition has long recognized that we inherit not only the blessings of our ancestors, but also the imprints of their unhealed wounds. While these legacies can offer resilience and meaning, they can also shape us in ways that keep us reactive rather than reflective. The work of ancestral healing invites us to meet these inheritances with awareness, tenderness, and courage—so that what has been carried unconsciously can be transformed into wisdom.

Over the course of this experiential Shabbaton, Reb Tirzah will lead us on a rich and engaging journey through story, guided meditation, and real-life case studies from around the world. Together, we will explore what Viktor Frankl described as our “uniquely human potential to transform personal tragedy into triumph.”

Join us for a deeply nourishing Shabbat of insight, connection, and renewal.

Mishkan Circles are the heart of our communal life — teams who come together to co-create sacred space, support our gatherings, and bring intention to every aspect of our services. Just as the original Mishkan was built by the hands and hearts of the people, these Circles empower each of us to take part in the holy work of community-building, connection, and spiritual service.

Interested in bringing in the light with neighbours?

This new initiative is all about making Shabbat more local, personal, and connected — creating smaller table gatherings where neighbours can get to know one another, share a meal, and experience the spirit of Shabbat together. Whether you’re new or a familiar face, these evenings are an opportunity to build relationships, strengthen community, and bring Shabbat closer to home.
