Canadian Memorial United Church

Canadian Memorial United Church Open-hearted, open-minded, Affirming. We seek to be an inclusive and progressive Christian church. Are you a seeker? Do you ask tough questions?

Are you spiritual but not religious? Christian but not dogmatic? Open to others but sure there is more to life than materialism? Touched with awe by the beauty of the world and moved to grief over the horror and suffering? Are you straight, straight(ish), cis-gendered and/or LGBTQIA2S+ and want to worship where you can feel authentic? Then come and tap into something greater than us. In the Christ

ian tradition, God is found in relationship with one another and with the world. We practice evolutionary Christian spirituality which means we see our connection to all life. Time together in Church brings us prayerful practice, a sense of connection with the Divine and with each other, and the opportunity to be filled with Spirit. You'll find spiritual practices, an amazing variety of music to move you, a stunning worship space, programs to develop your own spiritual gifts, outreach to help those in need, and community. We are an Affirming congregation, and all are truly welcome. Our worship service is every Sunday at 10:30am (Pacific).

"In order to do anything, you've got to have power. In order to have power, you've got to organize.” - Saul Alinsky

A group of community organizers, future and present, gathered at Canadian Memorial Center for Peace to learn the principles of community organizing to help empower them to make changes small and large in the world around us.

Here at Canadian Memorial United Church and Centre for Peace, we work everyday to empower people and communities spiritually and to create collective action for a better today and tomorrow.

Please join us for community, connection, knowledge, and empowerment at one of our many events every month! To stay in the loop, sign up for our monthly newsletter: https://www.canadianmemorial.org/stay-in-touch

How to Meet with Your MLA: Influencing BC's Leaders on Climate Action

When: Tomorrow!Thursday, May 28th, 4-5pm PT
Where: On Zoom, register here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/RQ-4Nm3NRKWmFOOx8-b1NA

Want to influence climate action in BC? Join this training to explore the BC Climate Emergency Campaign's 2025 Climate Action Progress Report, a powerful, science-backed report that highlights what the BC government has accomplished and, more importantly, the urgent action still needed. The 2025 Progress Report gave the BC government 8 out of 10 failing grades - and yet, MLAs keep telling us their constituents no longer care about climate action. Let’s prove them wrong!

You don’t need to be a climate expert or have all the facts and figures to make a difference! As a constituent, your MLA works for you, and meeting with them, whether on your own or with other community members, can help educate them and push for stronger climate action.

This session will cover:

Why it's important to meet with your MLA
Key messages from the Progress Report
How to reach out to your MLA and prepare for your meeting
Tips for effective relationship-building and advocacy during your meeting

Whether you’re new to political engagement or already involved, this training will give you the tools to make your voice heard!

Building Connection with Neurodiverse Children and Teens
Sunday, May 31, 12 noon
The Fireside Room - Canadian Memorial Centre for Peace
Free event. All are welcome.
Facilitated by Mary Toth, Children, Youth, & Families Program Coordinator and certified ADHD coach.

Parenting or accompanying a neurodiverse child can be deeply rewarding—and, at times, challenging.

Many of us find ourselves wondering how to better support our children with ADHD or Autism without losing our cool.

Join us for a supportive, neurodiversity-affirming experience where we’ll explore what might be going on beneath behaviours—and how to respond in ways that build trust, reduce daily friction, and strengthen your relationship over time.

This isn’t about fixing your child. There is nothing to fix. It’s about understanding them—and feeling more confident in how you show up as their parent.

In this workshop, you’ll gain:

✨ A clearer understanding of ADHD & Autism, what they are and what they aren’t
✨ Simple ways to respond that support connection
✨ Perspective shifts that could ease stress and bring more calm into daily life
✨ The reassurance of being in a space where your experience is understood

You’ll also have the chance to connect with other adults who are walking a similar path—because you were never meant to do this alone.

Spots are limited to keep the space personal and meaningful.

👉 Register now to save your spot: https://form.jotform.com/CMUC/building-connection-workshop

All are welcome.

"Mama Bears" Film Screening
When: Sunday, May 24, 12 Noon
Where: The Sanctuary - Canadian Memorial United Church
Free event. All are welcome.

Please join us on Sunday, May 24, at 12noon after the worship service to watch this powerful documentary about "Mama Bears." They call themselves that because of the ferocity with which they fight for their children’s rights. Although they grew up as fundamentalist, evangelical Christians praying for the souls of 2SLGTBQ+ people, these mothers are now willing to risk losing friends, family, and faith communities to champion their kids—even when it challenges their belief systems and rips apart their worlds.
