First Christian Reformed Church of Vancouver

First Christian Reformed Church of Vancouver Join us Sunday mornings at 10:30am for Worship. All are welcome! We are a family-like congregation on the East side of Vancouver who celebrates our diversity.

While our heritage is based on the Reformed tradition rooted in the Netherlands, today our congregation includes members from every continent. Our congregation was started almost 82 years ago by a small group of Dutch Christian Reformed Church (CRC) immigrants. With the influx of more immigrants coming to Vancouver after WWII, the congregation was at its largest in the early 50's. As many immigran

ts moved on out to the surrounding areas in the Lower Mainland, our membership continued to steadily decline until the late 90's. About 15 years ago, our church began taking deliberate steps to build better relationships with our neighbours and address some of the needs in our neighbourhood. As a result, our church is now beginning to reflect the diversity found around Trout Lake in East Vancouver. Significant new ministries have enabled us to reach out to our community, particularly in our partnership with Urban Promise, a nondenominational outreach providing after-school care and summer camps to school-aged children. We believe that our Sunday worship services, our weekly activities and events, are all times for us to encourage each other and to encounter the Living God. Our worship services reflect our diversity of ages as we sing a combination of well-known hymns and thoughtful worship choruses. Largely led by our committed college and university students, our services include a creative blend of reading, reflection, prayer and singing. We encourage all of our members to use their gifts and passions in ways that contribute to the work of ministry of our church. With a strong sense of responsibility, men and women in our congregation are serving all areas of ministry - on council as elders and deacons, leading in our worship services or in the various other committees and on-going activities. Together, we affirm a unified sense of direction and purpose for who we are as a church on the Eastside of Vancouver. We believe that our faith spills out and touches every other area of our lives and therefore, as members we are committed to loving Jesus and living our lives as a grateful response to all that God offers us. We invite you to join us as we discover what it looks like for all of us to walk this journey of faith together.

We're looking forward to co-hosting Angela Reitsma Bick on *Thursday, June 5*, for a discussion of her book, "Blessed are the Undone: Testimonies of the Quiet Deconstruction of Faith in Canada"! Join us for an interactive presentation that will begin with data and stories from Blessed are the Undone, invite examples from Vancouver, and end with suggestions for “reconstruction-friendly” postures in an era of deconstruction. Please note that this event requires registration and there is a cost of $15 each - you can register here:

We received a beautiful surprise gift from our neighbour Harem today, who painted it for us as a sign of hope and in thanks for the ways we have partnered with him and others to support newcomers to Canada. We're grateful for this gift, and for Harem. Check out more of his art here https://haremtahir.art/
