As I have been informing you at church, I am writing to remind you that we will be together for the memorial of Alan G. Jones, our sister Doris’ beloved husband.

The Celebration of Life for Alan will be Sunday, December 3rd, at 1 pm, at ALL Christian Fellowship. Reception to follow at church.

Today’s story helps us to see that perhaps it is not unbelief or atheism that drives people away from God. It's much deeper than that. Obstinacy and refusal to live under Christ’s lordship lead many people to reject God's call. There is a certain sense of pleasure and satisfaction in thinking that I am in charge of my own life, striving to achieve my dreams, desires, and life goals, I am not accountable to anyone, let alone to an invisible God.

However, this satisfaction is very fragile, fleeting and unsustainable. People come to God and finally acknowledge Jesus’ sacrifice when they see there is absolute joy in being able to surrender themselves to God’s will, allowing Him to direct their lives, however painful it may be at first: “And in that place many believed in Jesus.” (v. 42)
