St. Mary Magdalene's

St. Mary Magdalene's Celebrating community at 2950 Laurel Street (corner of Laurel and West 14th Ave), Vancouver, BC St. We share our resources with our neighbours.

Mary Magdalene's invites individuals to experience the sacred in themselves, in community and in creation. Creative, inclusive worship is the heart of our life together and is central to our identity. We affirm a vision of Christianity as a 'path and practice', an alternative communal expression grounded in the interdependency of creation and community in all of their diversity as a response to th

e prophetic biblical call to "do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with God" (see Micah 6). Space is offered for prayer and meditation, classes and meetings. Doors are open intermittently throughout the week and for the scheduled worship services. Everyone is welcome! Whatever your age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ability, belief or questions, you are invited to 'come and see'.

A collect for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost:

Almighty God,
you sent your Holy Spirit
to be the life and light of your Church.
Open our hearts to the riches of your grace,
that we may bring forth the fruit of the Spirit
in love, joy, and peace;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.

Today, we join Christians around the world in observance of Ash Wednesday.

“By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” (Genesis 3:19)

Though our lives on earth are temporary, we have eternal life in the one who died for us.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent: a season pillared by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving leading up to Easter. Whoever you are, and wherever you are in your faith journey, you are in our prayers this Lent.

Today is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. For those who observe it; Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of a time of simplicity, of penitence- a wilderness time. We begin this with a symbol of ashes; a sign of the fragility of life and our ultimate end in God’s loving arms.

Today at 12:15pm we will mark this beginning in the Chapel, with a joint service with St. Anselm’s Anglican Church and University Hill United Church.

(For those who observe) However you mark Lent- we wish you a Holy Season.
