"The Profound Path of Chod" composed by Lama Je Tsongkhapa with Zasep Rinpoche’s commentary.
“We should think deeply that happiness or suffering, higher or lower rebirths, liking or disliking things, whatever we experience in our lives, all of these are a result of our own past wholesome and unwholesome Karma. Then I should meditate that goodness and gain are due to the kindness of the Guru and the Three Jewels. The general perception is, that when someone has helped and supported us, we consider these to be favourable circumstances in this life. But if there is no harm, then would be no way to develop patience, and without the opportunity to practice patience, enlightenment would not come so easily.
Those who harmed us in our past lives could have helped us to create conditions for enlightenment, that is why we should cut attachment or anger towards them. One should do analytical meditation, to see where does happiness and suffering arise, where does it remain, and at the end, where does it go? Analyze who it is that experiences suffering. One may search, but one will not find him or her. Without such investigation by logical analysis, worldly benefit and harm are merely nominal conventions – both are like the experience of happiness or suffering in a dream. If one meditates in this way, one will be able to bring about the wisdom of selflessness and cut the root of Samsara.
…(Zasep Rinposhe’s analytical observation: Yes, if there is no discomfort or harm there would be no way to develop patience, but I think there is no shortage of objects of patience, today’s world is no longer the same as when Lama Je Tsongkhapa blessed our land and people of Tibet. In today’s world there are so many causes of destruction for the mind. Most people who live in the cities don’t get good rest or deep sleep due to the noise and social media and so on. One’s own busy mind could be the biggest object of patience).
