Be more mature – John Leung (Forest)

A recent incident upset me and affected my spirit. I overreacted over a minor issue because I thought that I was right, but I also said things that I shouldn’t have said to the other person involved. Although I have since resolved the issue with an apology, I still felt bad because I offended the person because of my immaturity.

That incident left a shadow in my heart. Through having fellowship with a group of brothers who are more emotionally and spiritually mature than me, I realized that I should have handled the situation better. These brothers would have faithfully relied on God’s help or just resolved the situation calmly and with understanding, instead of escalating it by overreacting like I did.

I was touched when Jason encouraged us to shout for joy over our upcoming victories, such as overcoming negative feelings on mistakes like that I’ve made. I know that I am to forget things behind, learn my lesson, and move forward, instead of dwelling on my mistakes and letting the enemies attack me. I want to be more mature like those who I pursued with, so that not only they support me, but I could also support them.

阿爸想我陪祂 – Anna Chen (Lilies)

在今天周三的聚會上，我感覺很需要阿爸教我怎樣和祂一起生活，做祂無憂無慮快樂的小孩子。聚會後在回家的路上，我看到晚霞好靚，就來到河邊欣賞。當我看著眼前粉黃藍三色漸變的晚霞(手機拍不出粉色)，高掛在天空的彎月，以及對面機場起飛和降落的飛機，心裡不住地讚嘆和感恩神為我創造這美好的一切。這時我突然感到，不只是我需要阿爸陪我去欣賞這美景，原來阿爸也很需要我陪祂。祂創造出這麼美的一切，也需要我去欣賞，去享受。我的享受就是祂的快樂。這就是生活，互相陪伴、彼此需要的生活。於是我看著眼前的美景，作了首歌。

原来祢想我陪祢，

陪祢看粉色晚霞，

陪祢看飛機的起降，

看滿天的星宿。

阿爸祢想我陪祢，

看祢創造的一切，

祢想我去享受祢为我預備的一切，

祢最想我喜樂。

The Lord Will Provide ~ Amazing Grace – Eunis Leung (Alpha)

I was at a park drawing near to God, and I prayed to God that I really wanted a full-time job close to where I live.

I had this Bible verse in my heart: “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7 ESV)

Then I had an idea to walk around to find a daycare centre. Later, I heard some children’s voices and asked the people taking care of the children if there was a daycare. They said yes. So, I asked if they needed to hire an educator. They said the manager wasn’t around, so they didn’t know. Then I walked away, but suddenly they called me back and helped me to contact the manager. The manager contacted me to have an interview the week after.

I prepared all the documents and practiced using English to answer interview questions. But in the end, she just read my profile, didn’t ask any questions, and then hired me as a full-time educator. The job has a good salary and work hours. It only takes me 12 minutes to walk to the daycare.

What I have gained is so amazing. This experience encourages me to continue trusting God. He will provide again and again.

I shared this experience with my parents. My dad has not yet believed in God. I invited him to pray for me before. He said he didn’t know how to pray. But through this experience, he was touched that the Lord truly prepared a job for me, and he will continue to pray for me.

Unforgettable Mother’s Day Celebration – Amy Deng (Promised Land)

On May 4, I brought my mother to join an early Mother’s Day celebration organized by the church. The theme was “Rufus’ mother has been a mother to me as well” – quoting from the book of Romans in the bible. The idea is, the mother of brothers and sisters in the church, are also loved and cared for by the whole church, as if they’re our own mothers as well. Throughout the program, some lighthearted games and moments gave us a chance to express our love and care to our mothers naturally, and the whole room was filled with smiles, laughter, hugs, and warm gestures from different family units. During the opening song, where the church leaders of different groups came up to sing a medley of Mother’s Day songs to express their love and blessings to all the mothers, I felt a rush of warmth in my heart. I recalled how the church had always been there for me, throughout different stages of my life – at every stage, I had felt the commitment of brothers and sisters into the small and big things in my life; from accompanying me to buy my first face wash as a teen, teaching me how to wash the dishes, to even now when I am a grown adult, they are there to support me in caring for my mom, and helping her to know God. I truly am the person that I am today because of God’s grace, and the selfless acts of brothers and sisters in the church. This reconfirms my determination to also give my whole heart to love God and the church!

We give thanks that God has blessed our special gathering March 7-10. In these short four days, we enjoyed pursuing and experiencing God together with those from Silicon Valley and other districts. In the message, we learned to take out many shields to fight the battle of faith. In the special worship meeting, we were deeply moved by the Lord’s love of the cross and His commitment. After this glorious and touching meeting, brothers and sisters were compelled to love the Lord and commit ourselves totally to Him. Anna Wong’s farewell meeting was one of the highlights in the whole gathering. Her faith has encouraged many to despise our own challenges and stand up for God. The big captain team’s singing and testimonies also glorified God tremendously. We are all inspired to strive for God.

一個星期六聚會結束後，我駕車回家。在路上和主一起總結一下最近的進步和改變。想到自己從前心中的擔子重，情緒不穩，令自己常常不在狀態。現在不同了！更懂得享受主的同在，更會與他交流，真的可以擔子輕省，又長進又喜樂。

回家後寫了這首詩，以作記念。真的十分寶貴能與弟兄姊妹一同追求，實行真理。

有你，我可以

可以微笑可以靜享

Improving for the Lord – Nathaniel Tai (Faithful Team)

Last summer, I went on a trip to Asia for vacation and to visit relatives. This trip affected me greatly, both spiritually and physically. I couldn’t maintain the good schedule I had in Vancouver. Each day, I went to bed later and later. I was only able to attend Sunday meetings in Hong Kong. Although I felt the need in my spirit, I didn’t spend much time with God and couldn’t satisfy my spirit. Later, I also went to Indonesia, a country filled with idols and evil spirits. This affected my spirit and brought it
down.

When I returned to Vancouver, I expected to resume my previous condition. I tried to fix my schedule and daily routine, but I still stayed up late, and my spirit wasn’t in the best condition. When the older brothers and leaders of my group left for a missionary trip to Zambia, I had to take on more responsibilities in the work and shepherding of my group. I felt I wasn’t in a good enough spiritual condition to lead, but during the two weeks that the older brothers were away, I felt I improved a lot. Since I had to take on more, I had to push myself to strengthen my spirit so that I could help the brothers. Additionally, during those two weeks, we had morning team every day with the brothers. I began sharing messages and voicing out in meetings again. I also found that I could sleep earlier and felt a renewed desire to draw near to God. I experienced the Lord’s presence in my daily life once more. Not only do those who go on missionary trips grow and improve, but those who stay in Vancouver, like myself, can also experience great growth.

I feel that those two weeks have been a tremendous help for me. I’ve maintained a good schedule since then and continue to experience the Lord every day. Though challenges may come in life, the Lord is always there to lead us with His gentle hand. I want to keep my faith in Him throughout my life and do what He desires. The Lord has planned the best for me.

Christmas celebration in a senior home – Meiwa So (Vineyard)

I really enjoy Christmas, and this year, I’m especially thankful to have spent it with my senior brothers and sisters at Harrison Pointe. During our Christmas Celebration with them, my heart overflowed with joy and love towards them. I didn’t feel any distance and felt they were family members that I’ve known for a very long time. Their joyful singing of Christmas songs and the smiles on their faces were so heartwarming. It was a blessing to come together and celebrate the true meaning of the season—the birth of Jesus, who brought us lasting joy and peace.

A senior expressed that for a few years, she lost the spirit of Christmas due to the bereavement of losing her loved one. But this year she can celebrate Christmas again. For several years, she had stopped joining any church meetings. With our meeting being conducted right at her senior home, she can just come down and join. (For one year, the church has been having Sunday meetings at Harrison Pointe rain or shine.) As I was listening to her sharing, I felt deeply touched, and I felt honoured to have a part in serving these seniors. The Lord knows their needs and He has sent us to share the truth and love with them.

I Am Satisfied in the Lord – Nathanael Li Gr.8 (Faithful Team)

I want to share my experience in drawing near to God. I enjoyed a message on Sunday in which I learned that when I draw near to the Lord, I should really mean it and not do it as a task. I had some time to talk to the Lord about my own personal time and I told Him what distracts me from enjoying it more, such as my complaints on how summer was only volunteering and classes. I felt that my summer was very boring and I could not spend time with friends. The Lord spoke to me and He said that His love is the best and I felt very touched. I really felt His love was so good and I want to treasure it. Now when I volunteer in Summer Day Camp, I feel very happy and I felt my summer was very meaningful.

Learning How To Do Children Ministry – Jannie Tang (Promised Land)

I give thanks that I could volunteer for the Smarties program for children ages 2 to 5. I see the importance of supporting them from a young age to learn good habits and teachings from the Bible. Setting boundaries is also needed, which helps them to have better focus and learn faster.

When I first started, it was difficult to settle the children and get their attention. Each time it seemed like a struggle and they had little time to listen properly. In the past month, Wai Ying helped to set up some procedures for the children to follow: a clean-up song, lining up before fellowship, setting up a seating plan, etc. The children then were well-behaved and ready to listen.

From lack of experience in caring for young children, I am now developing these skills, and my heart is at ease to take up this ministry.
