Something is moving in the Catholic world. ✝️
The numbers are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
The Vatican’s newest statistics show that the Catholic Church has now surpassed 1.42 billion baptized members for the first time, rising from roughly 1.406 billion in 2023 to more than 1.422 billion in 2024. Africa remains the fastest-growing major region, while Catholics still make up about 17.8% of the global population.

At the same time, Catholicism is exploding online.

Fr. Mike Schmitz’s Bible in a Year crossed an almost absurd milestone in March 2026: one billion downloads worldwide. A Catholic priest reading Scripture for roughly 20 minutes a day created one of the most successful religious podcasts ever made.

In Brazil, Frei Gilson was ranked the country’s most-watched streamer of 2025, generating approximately 153.8 million hours watched across livestreaming platforms. His most famous broadcasts are not gaming streams or celebrity interviews.

They are prayer.

Thousands upon thousands of people wake up at 4 a.m. to pray the Rosary with him.

And then there is France.

For Easter 2026, the French bishops reported 13,234 adult baptisms, up 28% in a single year. When adolescents aged 11–17 are included, more than 21,380 people were preparing to receive Baptism — more than triple the number of adult baptisms recorded just ten years earlier.

None of this means secularization has suddenly disappeared or that every part of the Church is growing equally.

But something is clearly happening.

1.42 billion Catholics.

1 billion Bible podcast downloads.

Brazil’s most-watched streamer is a friar leading people in prayer.

More than 21,000 baptisms among adults and teenagers in France.

For years we were told Christianity was inevitably fading into history.

Apparently nobody told the next generation.

We are so back. ✝️

Every Sunday, we witness a miracle: Jesus becomes truly present in the Eucharist. 🙏

At every Mass, bread and w**e become the Body and Blood of Christ—not a symbol, but the living presence of Our Lord.

The same Jesus who healed the sick, forgave sinners, raised the dead, and gave His life on the Cross comes to us in Holy Communion.

Sunday Mass is more than an obligation. It is an encounter with the living God.

Partaking in the minor Marian feasts throughout the year is much like the repeated utterances of the Hail Mary. Many of us pray multiple Hail Marys each day, sometimes with more or less attention and devotion.

If we resort to simply rattling off the words of the Hail Mary, only paying attention on occasion to the mysteries latent beneath the prayer, we lose focus of its true purpose: orienting us to God through Mary’s mediation.

Like the one Hail Mary amidst dozens, if we gloss over these other Marian feast days with little attention we can miss out on the unique mediating way the Blessed Virgin Mary wishes to bring us directly to her Son

To translate Mary’s intercession into our daily struggles and needs can take on a variety of forms: “My marriage is in shambles!” “Why can’t I be merciful?” “My sin controls me!” “Why does mom have to suffer like that?,” “Why is my family dysfunctional?” “I’m lonely!” “Why can’t I find work?” “Why do I feel unworthy of love?” etc.

The Holy Name of Mary aids us in being immediate and direct in prayer. Prayer is not so much reading the back of a holy card as it is an honest and real lifting of the heart to God above. We don’t need eloquent sentences but genuine hearts.

With the simple and direct invocation of the Name of Mary, we are able to bring the simple and direct invocation of our most distressing needs to Jesus.

A new report from the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law, Intersociety, says 3,083 Christians were killed and 3,193 abducted in Nigeria, primarily by Islamist extremist groups, between January and August 2026. July and August were the deadliest months, with 437 killed and 393 abducted. The report also counts 400 churches attacked and 25 priests and pastors killed or abducted, with most of the violence centred in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, a region where the north (Muslim-populated) meets the south (Christian-populated). In Taraba State alone, between September 2025 and August 2026, approximately 239 church buildings were attacked or destroyed, displacing nearly 100,000 parishioners and uprooting more than 200 Christian communities, with the residences of 8 priests destroyed and 16 Catholic priests forced to flee.
