An Evening of Gospel Music with Ken Whiteley.

Ken Whiteley is a Canadian folk legend. He has won many awards including Canadian Folk Music Award, Genie Award (for Best Original Song in a feature film) and Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Maple Blues Awards, Mariposa Folk Festival and Folk Music Ontario. Ken changed the course of children’s music working with Raffi and dozens of others. He’s shared stages and recordings with Pete Seeger, John Hammond Jr., Tom Paxton, Stan Rogers, Blind John Davis and countless others and written over 400 songs. He is a powerful singer, a stellar multi-instrumentalist and deeply versed in gospel, blues and a broad range of traditional folk styles. With over 50 years of performing and touring across North America and 37 albums, he continues to grow and evolve as an artist. He has released 4 albums since 2020 including CFMA award nominees “Long Time Travelling” and “So Glad I’m Here”. The aptly titled “Keep Going” was released in March of 2026 and was in the Top Ten for the North American Folk Music dj chart.

With Ken will be the wonderful singer, Ciceal Levy. Her singing is deeply rooted in the Black church and she has sung and recorded with such diverse artists as Tom Cochrane, Andy Kim, Pete Seeger and many others. Her musical roots with Ken go back over three decades with many recordings and performances at festivals together across Canada.

Gord Mowat is a string bass par excellence with a solid grounding in roots music and the chops of a great jazz musician. Together they bring their vast experience to each performance as a way to allow all of us to come together and experience connection through the power of song.

Join us this coming Wednesday, December 10 for the second online vigil in the Pause, Pray, Disrupt Advent series - A United Church Response to the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

We invite you to join us as we pause from our daily routines, pray for justice and peace, and consider how we are called to disrupt systems of oppression.

When: Wednesdays December 10 and 17. Time: 12:00-12:30pm ET / 9:00-9:30am PT. Where: Zoom

This gathering draws inspiration from recent United Church vigils while creating space for congregants to respond to the call for solidarity with Palestinian communities.

All are welcome to participate in this time of faithful witness.

Two churches fundraiser - all welcome...

The United Church of Canada has released a powerful renewed declaration, "Dreaming a Better World Into Being: For the Sake of God’s Beloved World." Stemming from decisions made at General Council 45 in Calgary, Alberta, the statement renews the church's commitment to justice, peace, the integrity of Creation, and the flourishing of all peoples and the world.

The church raises its voice to call for urgent action on peace and justice issues internationally, including the ongoing genocide and humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, as well as violence in Latin America and tensions on the Korean peninsula.The declaration also addresses the church's own complicity in settler colonialism and urges all levels of Canadian society to defend those Indigenous Peoples most affected by the climate crisis and those without access to clean drinking water.

The statement reiterates the church’s apology to 2S and LGBTQIA+ communities, calling for government action to protect their rights. Other urgent calls for action include addressing the housing and mental health crises, the overdose crisis, increasing polarization, and the erosion of democratic processes.

NEVER HAD IT SUMMED UP LIKE THIS BEFORE.
Why go to Church?
I think this is fantastic, I just love the guy's answer, and the interpretation for the word BIBLE. Enjoy and pass it on .
A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday.
He wrote: "I've gone for 30 years now, and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons, but for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time, the preachers and priests are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all".
This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column.
Much to the delight of the editor, it went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:
"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals.
But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.
Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!"
When you are DOWN to nothing, God is UP to something!
Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible & receives the impossible!
Thank God for our physical and our spiritual nourishment!
IF YOU CANNOT SEE GOD IN ALL, YOU CANNOT SEE GOD AT ALL !
