Bain Honour Canoe Project Welcome to the Bain Honour Canoe Project! Please come and join us in honouring our indigenous ancestors who lived and thrived on this land many years ago.

Our Vision Statement

The Bain Honour Canoe acknowledges the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that documents the experience of over 100,000 indigenous children of this land who were forced by the Canadian state into the Residential School system (operated mainly by various Christian denominations) between the 1880's and the 1990's. Many children died as a result or were deeply traumatized. Our canoe is in honour of all those and their decedents who were affected by the experience. Our Mission Statement

The intent of the Bain Honour Canoe Project is to encourage reflection on the significance of the TRC by:

* establishing in Bain Co-op an indigenous painted canoe filled with healing plants in recognition of the TRC

* installing appropriate signage to describe the project

* provide learning opportunities to explore indigenous/settler relations
