From the Pastor's Desk;
On this September morning, I was reading some devotional thoughts from A.W. Tozer.
Mr. Tozer pastored a church in Toronto in the early 1960’s, and his words today really jumped off the page at me.
Lately, I have seen some of the cruel things said about Dolly Parton by those who would claim to be followers of Jesus.
(None of us can judge, of course. But if the thought that she is in hell really helps you sleep at night, you need to go and re-read what Jesus said in the first two verses of Matthew’s Gospel, Chapter 7.)
But two statements Tozer made, gave me a big reminder as to why I decided to put my own faith and trust in Christ almost 50 years ago.
He said;
“I am grateful that entrance into heaven is not based on somebody voting for me.”
And;
“Goodness cannot get you into heaven, but if you will trust the grace of God, badness cannot keep you out.”
I wonder if you’re like me?
Are there now more years in your rearview mirror than the ones ahead of you in the windshield?
Some years you’re even happy to forget?
Then, while there’s still time, don’t let anyone’s self-righteous behaviour give you the excuse you need to neglect having your own, personal faith encounter with Jesus.
Trust him and receive him in simple faith.
Then, go and let your light shine.
(I don’t remember a time in this world when we needed that more!)
