Zoom. You may love it. You may hate it. You may be tired of it. We have all spent a varying number of hours in zoom calls or similar video conferencing software in the past few months. Now, many of us have encountered zoom fatigue.
Zoom came as a great blessing to us in a time of isolation and physical distancing. We could have meetings, small groups, family visits, meetings, meetings. Oh, and meetings!
Psychologists have acknowledged what is called zoom fatigue. It is the result of being seen by everyone on your screen and presents a different dynamic than an in-person meeting. Consequently, there is a significantly greater drain on our social energy.
I have had days of 5+ hours on zoom and felt completely depleted by the end of it. I suspect some of you have too.
This is why it is so vital to be aware of our energy levels. We have four kinds: physical, emotional, social, and spiritual. They each have their own stamina and resilience levels in our lives. If neglected for too long, we can become vulnerable to burnout.
I cover this topic (excluding Covid-19) in my book, A Fresh Start. It can help you equip yourself to avoid burnout in your workplace or life.
Pay attention to your energy levels and take the breaks you can when you should. Stay safe and healthy!
