ASK ME! You may have noticed some of our members wearing bright yellow and red “ASK ME” buttons. If you are new to St. John’s (or even not so new!) and have questions – please speak to anyone wearing a button. If they don’t have an answer for you, they’ll find one!

WELCOME WEDNESDAYS: Good morning, all! Leona Hunt here. I spoke to you on May 24th about a summer ministry project called Welcome Wednesdays which came about through my year with the Connectors 7 which I finished up in April. The dream is that we open the doors, quite literally, and welcome in our neighbours, the community and visitors to Truro to tell the world that everyone is welcome to worship in this house of the Lord, regardless of religious affiliation or if you have never had an affiliation. Let’s sow some seeds! BUT I NEED YOU to walk alongside me to make this summer ministry happen. To that end, please consider filling out the sign up form included in this week’s bulletin and place it in the wicker basket at the back of the church (there are pens available beside the basket). Offer up your gift of time on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 2:00 and please bring along any other gifts you might have to make this a fun and interesting time for all. I will need 2 volunteers each Wednesday. AND remember to consider your faith stories that we might get to know each other in a different way as we share. There will be a morning prayer service at 11:00 from different prayer books. Thank you in advance and God bless!
We are exploring the possibility of holding an adult Confirmation Class this fall. Any who are interested in seeking Confirmation are asked to speak to Rev. Lori.

Our parish Fall Retreat date has been set! Please mark Saturday, September 26th in your calendars for a day away together at the Seek Wilderness facility at the top of Young St. All are welcome to join in this time of prayer, reflection, sharing and enjoying God’s good creation!

Our Water of Life Walk-a-Thon last Saturday raised $4,400! This is sufficient to dig one well!!! We will have a report on the total amount raised by the project here at St. John’s and through our community partners for this year in the coming weeks. Thank you to all who contributed!

Our book study on Practicing the Way: Be With Jesus, Become Like Him, Do as He Did by John Mark Comer is wrapping up on June 14th. Praying for Peace: During the Second World War, a group of people stopped whatever they were doing for a specific time every night to pray for peace and safety for everyone. They did this every day, and it was as if the whole city paused – such was the power of prayer. The result was so overwhelming that the bombing stopped shortly afterward! Now once again some people are organizing. A group of people around the world has agreed to spend one minute praying for the safety of our countries, for the end of the problems that oppress us, and for God to guide the decisions of our leaders. The time chosen for Canada to pray is 12:00 noon. Please pause in your busy day to pray for peace at that time.

Your Spiritual Development Committee is seeking creative entries to a logo contest. We’re working on Welcome Bags for newcomers to the parish and we need a bright and eye-catching logo for screen printing onto our gift bags. Design a logo that shows something about St. John’s and who we are. There will be a prize for the chosen logo. Get our your pencils and paints and submit something to the office before the end of June. Open to all parishioners of any age!

Today in our church calendar we recognize Mary's visitation to her cousin Elizabeth. Let us pray:

Almighty God, who looked with favour on your servant Mary, and called her to be the mother of your Son, nurture in us the humility and gentleness that found favour in your sight, that with her we may proclaim the greatness of your name and find the mercy you show to those who fear you;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Water of Life!

Safe water changes a community today. Knowledge changes it for generations.

That’s why every Lifewater Canada project includes a health and hygiene workshop led by our local partners like STS-Liberia. Community members of all ages, from toddlers to seniors, gather to learn about how to protect their water sources, disease transmission, and sanitation.

Because real impact means creating change that lasts beyond a single project. 💧

St. John’s has received a certificate of recognition from the Ukrainian Community of Truro. Residual funds from the shared account that sponsored the Hrez family’s immigration to Canada from Syria in 2016 were donated to the children’s charity of the local Ukrainian Community for their use. This was a joint initiative between Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Parish and St. John’s.

Thy Kingdom Come (TKC) is a global ecumenical prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray from Ascension to Pentecost for more people to come to know Jesus. Since it began in May 2016, God has grown TKC from a dream of possibility into a movement which unites more than a million Christians in prayer, in nearly 90% of countries worldwide, across 85 different denominations and traditions- so that friends and family, neighbours and colleagues might come to faith in Jesus Christ.

Every person, household and church are encouraged to pray during the 11 days (May 14th – 24th) in their own way. Specifically, we invite each and every Christian across the globe to pray that God’s Spirit might work in the lives of 5 people who have not responded with their ‘Yes’ to God’s call. It is our hope & prayer, that those who have not yet heard the Good News of Jesus Christ and His love for the world, will hear it for themselves and respond and follow Him.

This year’s Thy Kingdom Come is all about the presence of God through His spirit.

The God who is with us in the everyday – in the joys and sorrows of life (and everything in between) and the One who, through His spirit, longs to reveal Himself to those who do not yet know Him.

From the story of Ruth to the story of Gideon, from the story of Elijah to the story of the early church who waited for the promised Holy Spirit to come - over the 11 days we will explore a different Bible story each day, which demonstrates God’s transformative presence, power and love at work in the lives of people and places.

Our hope is that as we pray for our five people, they will also experience the life-changing love of God and choose to follow Him.
