Summer ESL at IRS 🌱

This summer, we’re taking English learning beyond the classroom—creating opportunities for our students to learn, build community, serve others, and share hope.

Over two days, our ESL students gave out 100+ care packages to people in need on the streets. They started small conversations and shared a personal “Note of Hope”—words of encouragement they wrote and included with each package. ❤️

And learning doesn’t always happen in the classroom! Our students also took on a fun scavenger hunt at St. Lawrence Market, going from vendor to vendor, asking questions, completing challenges, and putting their English into practice along the way.

This year, we are introducing a new hybrid approach — learn English online from the comfort of your home while also having opportunities to connect in person through optional community gatherings, social events, volunteer opportunities, and activities that help you practice English and build relationships.

At the heart of The Salvation Army is a focus on Others—

God loves the foreigner and provides for them. Serving them is not just a ‘good deed’ — it’s justice and obedience. God calls us to stand with the vulnerable, the widows, and the newcomers among us. How can we extend His love to those making this place their home today?
