First Baptist Church Toronto

First Baptist Church Toronto We welcome all people to worship and serve with us. You will find joyful praise, warm fellowship and relevant teaching and ministry.

Founded in 1826, First Baptist Church has the distinction of being both the very first Baptist church and the oldest Black institution in the city of Toronto. Eight years before the abolition of slavery in the British Empire, 12 slaves from the Southern U.S made their way via the Underground Railroad to become the first members of First Baptist Church. Greetings and welcome to our Sunday worship. We invite you to participate in our praise, as we honour our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. As we reflect once again on His sacrifice and resurrection, we’ll learn it’s not only the victory over death — it is the turning point of history. How? Because the old covenant laws given to Israel could not fully change people’s hearts; but through Christ, God’s dwelling place would no longer be confined to buildings, earthly rituals, or tablets of stone, but within the very hearts of all who believe. Are you living in the old or new?

"But now hath He (Christ) obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also He is the mediator of a better covenant" (Hebrews 8:6a)

Once again, welcome to our Communion service of worship unto Christ our Redeemer. We’ll enter our praise, in acknowledgment of His redemptive work on the cross. Yes, this Anointed One, as we learned, was prophetically announced by Daniel, to be “cut off” (Daniel 9:25-26), and rejected by the ones He came to save. "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name." (John 1:12). “The Call and the Fall” of Israel’s Temple in 70 A.D. marked the end of the old covenant and revealed the seriousness of rejecting God. Christ’s arrival was and is a significant fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy; fulfillment in the New Testament.

"He came unto His own, and His own received Him not, but as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name." (John 1:11-12)

Welcome to our Communion Worship unto Yeshua Hamashiach, Christ our Lord.

We’ll gather in fellowship as we remember the pre-emptive work of He who is “The Anointed One”. Prophetically announced by Daniel, to be “cut off” through His sacrifice on the cross, Christ brought redemption to all of God's people. His arrival is a significant fulfillment of OT prophecies of the Messiah. Yet rejected by Israel, they would suffer another disobedient exile by the Romans, thus posing the question, “Would God rebuild once again for His prophetic fulfilment?”

“After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.” (Daniel 9:26a)
