Sermon for the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost (St Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist)

The mere mention of ecumenism often brings forth varied reactions, from enthusiastic acceptance to strong rejection. Some see it as fulfilling Christ's prayer for unity, while others label it a modern heresy. Father Matthew the Poor offers a unique perspective within this debate. He encourages readers to approach the Church's catholicity through a mystical lens, grounding his interpretation in Christ's role as reconciler and the transformative call to become a "new man" in Him. Consequently, Father Matthew champions a prayerful and mystical path to reconciliation, presenting it as an alternative to the more prevalent dogmatic and dialogue-centric approaches found in current ecumenical discussions.
