Toronto Zen Centre

Toronto Zen Centre The Toronto Zen Centre was founded in 1967 by Roshi Philip Kapleau to provide a supportive environment for the authentic study & practice of Zen Buddhism.

In Buddhism, we say there are no accidents. If you feel a pull towards the Buddha’s teaching and would like to explore further or would like to enhance your own peace of mind or spiritual practice, we invite you to the Toronto Zen Centre. The best place to begin is at an Introductory Workshop with Roshi Henderson: http://www.torontozen.org/courses.html

On Sunday, October 5, the Zen Centre will have a special Thanksgiving Ceremony. Gratitude is a sublime emotion that when practiced frequently lifts the spirits and opens our heart. When we experience gratitude we realize our interconnection with all people and things and selfishness is transcended. Thus it is particularly significant to those walking a spiritual path as we can also voice our gratitude to our Sangha brothers and sisters and the ancestors who made the Dharma accessible.

On Sunday, October 27, we will be having the Hungry Ghost Ceremony, during which we offer spiritual sustenance to beings in the Preta realm who are suffering from having led greedy lives in a previous lifetime. Food and drink turns to poison for them but they are able to eat and drink offerings selflessly made.

We also and honour those loved ones who have passed away in the past year and have a special table for their pictures - if you wish to bring one. Another element of the ceremony is acknowledging those “hungry ghost mind states”, that we in this land of plenty suffer from.

Guests are welcome. More information https://torontozen.org/event_hungry_ghost.html
