We issue this statement in relation to the drive by shooting that occurred two nights ago after evening prayers.

Please do note that we do not have reason to believe this was a hate crime at this point. We're working with 43 division and hopeful that TPS will put adequate resources to investigate this shooting. We believe it's absolutely essential the suspect(s) be apprehended before we can begin to heal as a community. We're requesting anyone with information to please contact Toronto Police or reachout to Crime Stoppers anonymously. We're grateful to 43 division, local politicians, and the media for their support. Thank you.

*MASJID OPENING WITH FULL CAPACITY*

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Alhamdulillah, we are pleased to announce that effective tomorrow Monday October 25th, Jame Abu Bakr Siddique will reopen with full capacity. As we return to operating the Masjid with full capacity, the following rules will be implemented, as per guidelines by the Ontario Government:

1) Vaccinated musallees will be allowed to pray side by side with masks on. Proof of vaccinations will be required.
2) A separate praying area will be designated for individuals who are not vaccinated. They will be required to maintain social distancing while wearing masks.

Alhamdulillah, this is a great mercy of Allah Subhanahu wa'tala that we are once again opening the Masjid with full capacity for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 Pandemic. In the recent past, we have noticed many previously regular musallees have become accustomed to praying at home. With the Masjid open with full capacity and the majority of our community being fully vaccinated, we strongly encourage our community to attend the Masjid and pray Salah in congregation. We hope to see you at the Masjid!

Witnessing the misconceptions and stigma often associated with divorce, we are aiming to create support groups for our sisters and brothers who have experienced divorce.

As part of an ongoing series, our first conversation will be for sisters only exploring to following:

How do we distinguish between the prevalent cultural norms and Islamic principles of divorce? What is the Prophetic advice on mutual separation and divorce? What is the mental health impact on individuals and families of those in the process of divorce?

Let us have a compassionate conversation to nurture a healthier understanding about divorce in Islam.

This event is open to all sisters who wish to learn or participate in this discussion, and not limited to divorcees only. You may register by scanning the QR Code on the flyer, or by visiting our Eventbrite: https://bit.ly/35VQMgn.

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Alhamdulillah, we are pleased to announce the Scarborough Muslim Association/Jame Abu Bakr Siddique (SMA) will be opening from tomorrow, Thursday, October 15th, 2020, for Dhuhr salaah. At this time, all educational programs will continue online until further notice. As we begin to open the Masjid for prayers, we insist on the importance of following safety protocols put in place by the Government.

*Masks must be worn properly (including covering of the nose) at all time while in the Masjid premises. You may be asked to leave the premises if you are not wearing your mask properly. Do not socialize in the Masjid or outside the Masjid. Maintain social distancing while entering, leaving, and praying in the Masjid. Please practice social distancing near shoe racks, and do not crowd the exit. If you are sick, or have a sick family member with possible symptoms of COVID-19, we request you to pray your salaah at home. Please perform your wudhu at home.*

*After completing salaah, please remain in your place until you are advised to proceed by the volunteers, one row at a time. If you are in a hurry, please consider this before attending the Masjid for salaah.*

These measures are taken to protect our musallees, staff, and students. We understand it may cause some inconvenience, but we are hopeful of your understanding and cooperation so we can keep the Masjid open without disruptions.

The SMA takes the safety of our students, staff, and congregants very seriously and considers the health and well-being of everyone to be our top priority.

*ZERO TOLERANCE. WE DO NOT WISH TO REMOVE ANYONE FROM THE MASJID, NEVERTHELESS, THOSE VIOLATING THE ABOVE RULES WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR MUSALLEES.*

A video message with instructions is attached in English and Urdu. Please view carefully before coming for salaah.

JazakumAllahu khair for your cooperation and understanding. We ask for your patience and understanding at this challenging time. We ask Allah Subhanahu wa'tala to keep us safe and pray for the speedy recovery for all our brothers and sisters.
