Atisha Buddhist Centre

Atisha Buddhist Centre 1823 Gerrard Street East, Toronto

We offer classes in meditation and Modern Buddhism, as well as chanted prayers, that are open to everyone.

Urban and away meditation retreats are offered throughout the year. The Atisha Buddhist Centre was founded in 1998 with the purpose of helping people discover inner peace and happiness through the practice of meditation. Whether you are attending one of the Centre’s many programs or relaxing here with friends, we offer a warm and friendly environment for all who wish to learn about the Buddhist wa

y of life. There are over 1,000 Kadampa Buddhist centres around the world, with thousands of people now practicing Kadampa Buddhism under the guidance of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. The worldwide Kadampa community is like a global spiritual family because it offers us support and encouragement in our spiritual practice. We need this kind of support system to grow and make progress along our spiritual path.

There’s still time to join the festival online.

Through this empowerment we will receive the special blessings of Amitayus, the Buddha of long life, wisdom and merit.

Then, based on Eight Verses of Training the Mind, Gen-la Khyenrab will explain how we can transform all the problems and difficulties of our daily life into opportunities for developing authentic love and compassion, and for finding true and lasting happiness.

Please join us for this year's annual gathering of Kadampa centres throughout Canada, the Canadian National Festival 2026, being held for the first time at KMC Montreal! This is a special opportunity and our great good fortune to, once again, receive live teachings from our former National Spiritual Director, Gen-la Kelsang Khyenrab.

Offering to the Spiritual Guide, or Lama Chopa in Tibetan, is a special Guru yoga of Je Tsongkhapa in conjunction with Highest Yoga Ta**ra. It was compiled by the first Panchen Lama, Losang Chokyi Gyaltsen, as a preliminary practice for Ta***ic Mahamudra. The main practice is meditation on reliance upon our Spiritual Guide, but it also includes all the essential practices of the stages of the path (Lamrim) and training the mind (Lojong), as well as both the generation and completion stages of Highest Yoga Ta**ra. By relying upon our Spiritual Guide as one with Je Tsongkhapa, our compassion, spiritual power, and especially our wisdom will naturally increase. A complete commentary to this practice can be found in Great Treasury of Merit. 💙☸️
