Welcome to Golden Hearts Seniors Ministry!
A Catholic community for seniors at St. Barnabas, growing together in faith, wisdom, health, and friendship. We nurture the mind, body, and soul through prayer, fellowship, education, and support.
From exercise classes and scam awareness to financial guidance for aging and preparing our hearts for eternal life, we walk this journey together with Christ at the center.
More information can be found on our parish website. Please join us this September- we look forward to growing with you!
A blessing to our parish for many years, Officer Melvin Roxas of the Toronto Police Service joined our Golden Hearts Seniors Group to speak about staying safe and navigating the many scams and theft tactics affecting our community today. We are truly grateful for his faithfulness to St. Barnabas and for taking the time to educate and protect our seniors through this important talk.
Officer Melvin shared many helpful reminders on how scammers often target people through suspicious phone calls, text messages, and emails claiming unpaid bills, banking issues, or urgent payments. Seniors were encouraged never to click unknown links, give out personal information, or respond to messages that create fear or pressure. He also spoke about identity theft and the importance of avoiding carrying debit cards, credit cards, and IDs together inside phone cases, as losing a phone could mean losing everything at once.
He also warned about common distraction thefts, including strangers approaching too closely, offering hugs, or creating confusion in public spaces while secretly attempting to steal wallets, jewelry, or personal belongings. Through real-life examples and practical advice, our seniors learned the importance of staying alert, protecting their valuables, and always taking an extra moment to verify before trusting unfamiliar requests.
Thank you, Officer Melvin, for your dedication to serving both our city and our parish community. Your care, wisdom, and willingness to give back are deeply appreciated by all of us at St. Barnabas.
