The Auspicious Occasion of Vesak Day
On this most sacred and joyful occasion of Vesak — celebrated on the auspicious fifteenth day of the fourth lunar month — we gather in devotion and gratitude to commemorate three transcendent events in the life of Śākyamuni Buddha: his miraculous birth as Prince Siddhārtha Gautama in the gardens of Lumbinī, his supreme attainment of unsurpassed, perfect Enlightenment beneath the Bodhi Tree at Bodhgayā, and his final passage into Mahāparinirvāṇa at Kuśinagara. That these three profound milestones of liberation all occurred on the same day of the lunar calendar is itself a testament to the extraordinary blessing and power of the Tathāgata.
Vesak is not merely a day of historical remembrance — it is a living invitation to turn our hearts and minds toward the Dharma with renewed sincerity and depth. On this auspicious day, we are called to engage meaningfully with the Buddha's teachings: to study the Sūtras and their commentaries with diligence, to sustain our formal meditation practice with regularity and care, and to cultivate the qualities of wisdom and compassion that define the path to liberation. It is a day to reflect honestly on how deeply the Dharma has taken root in our lives, and what we must still do to let it flourish.
Above all, Vesak reminds us that genuine spiritual practice must be brought into action. The generation of compassion — bodhicitta in its aspiration and application — must not remain a feeling confined to the cushion or the shrine room. Whatever merit and insight arise from our prayers, offerings, and meditations on this most blessed of days, we are urged to translate them into concrete acts of kindness, generosity, and service toward all sentient beings. As taught in the Mahāyāna tradition, the merit accumulated on sacred days such as Vesak is multiplied many times over; may we therefore be especially diligent, virtuous, and compassionate in thought, word, and deed throughout this auspicious day, and carry that spirit forward into every day that follows.
Sarvamangalam — May all be auspicious.

༄༅། 🇫🇷 Under the precious guidance of Kyabje Sungjang Rinpoche, a sacred Kalachakra Guru Yoga retreat was successfully accomplished from the 23rd to the 29th of May by Rinpoche and a gathering of devoted practitioners from France. Throughout these seven auspicious days, the participants engaged wholeheartedly in the profound practices of the Kalachakra Guru Yoga — generating the deity, reciting the mantra, and cultivating the inseparable union of bliss and emptiness — in accordance with the authentic transmission of the Gelug tradition.
May the virtue and merit accumulated through this retreat be purely dedicated, without any trace of self-grasping, to the long life and stable throne of Kyabje Sungjang Rinpoche, to the preservation and flourishing of the precious Buddha Dharma in all directions, and above all, to the swift liberation of every sentient being throughout the six realms from the ocean of cyclic suffering. May the auspicious light of the Kalachakra — the Wheel of Time — dispel the darkness of ignorance in all hearts, and may peace, wisdom, and compassion reign throughout the world.🌿

Day 1 of Retreat — Root Teaching:🇫🇷

The Origin of Suffering and the Path of Transformation
At the heart of the Buddhist path lies a profound recognition: the primary source of all suffering — both our own and that of countless beings — is the self-grasping mind and the self-cherishing attitude that flows from it. Clinging to a "self" that appears solid, independent, and supremely important, we instinctively prioritize our own comfort, pleasure, and security above all else. This deeply ingrained habit of selfishness is not a moral failing to be judged, but a fundamental misunderstanding of reality — one that keeps us bound in the cycle of confusion and suffering.
The antidote the Buddha taught is not suppression or self-denial, but wisdom — specifically, the wisdom of interdependence (pratītyasamutpāda). When we genuinely contemplate how every aspect of our existence arises in dependence upon countless other beings and conditions, the rigid boundary between "self" and "other" begins to dissolve. We see that the wellbeing of others is inseparable from our own. From this understanding, compassion (karuṇā) arises naturally — not as a forced virtue, but as the spontaneous response of a mind that has begun to see clearly.
This is the great transformation at the center of practice: selfishness, recognized and understood, becomes the very doorway through which boundless compassion enters the world.🌿

🇩🇪
By the grace of the Three Jewels and the blessings of the unbroken lineage of Lama Tsongkhapa, the week-long programme of teachings presided over by Kyabje Sungjang Rinpoche, concluded auspiciously today at Khandro Ling, Germany.
Over the course of seven days, Kyabje Rinpoche bestowed the complete empowerment (dbang) of Amitābha — the Buddha of Boundless Light and Lord of the Sukhāvatī Pure Land — together with associated ritual transmissions and practice instructions. The empowerment conferred the full authorization to engage in sādhana practice related to Amitābha and established the ripening connection (smin pa'i 'brel ba) between the disciples and this most compassionate of Buddhas.
At the heart of the programme was the oral transmission (lung) and practice instructions for Phowa — the Vajrayāna practice of consciousness transference ('pho ba) at the time of death. Phowa is one of the Six Yogas of Nāropa and is regarded within the Gelug and broader Vajrayāna traditions as among the most profound and practically indispensable of advanced contemplative methods. Through the Phowa practice, the trained practitioner cultivates the capacity to direct the stream of consciousness (rnam shes) out through the crown aperture (tshang ka) at the moment of death and transfer it into the heart of Amitābha Buddha, thereby securing rebirth in the Sukhāvatī Pure Land. Transmission of this practice is entrusted exclusively to qualified lineage holders who have themselves received and mastered the unbroken succession of blessing from teacher to disciple, tracing ultimately to the primordial source. Kyabje Rinpoche guided participants through both the theoretical basis of the practice — grounded in the Vajrayāna understanding of the subtle body, the energy-winds (rlung), and the central channel (rtsa dbu ma) — and its practical implementation, including the recognized signs of accomplishment (rtags) that arise in the meditator's body through sustained training.
The programme also encompassed related dharma teachings that provided essential doctrinal context for the empowerment and transmission, enabling participants to integrate the practices into a coherent path of study and meditation.
The sangha extends its heartfelt gratitude to Kyabje Sungjang Rinpoche for his immeasurable kindness in transmitting these precious teachings, and to all those at Khandro Ling whose tireless effort made this gathering possible. May the merit accumulated throughout this programme ripen for the boundless benefit of all sentient beings, and may the lineage continue to flourish without interruption.
