Read about our updated Dharma Days at KGDL. A day of teachings and practice held on the last Saturday of each month.

For 2025 we are planning a systematic series of teachings on the Tibetan Buddhist path. Soepa Tulku will be teaching each month guiding us through the 3 vehicles of practice. 3 months on the Shravakayana, then 6 months on Mahayana and finally 3 months introducing us to Vajrayana.

Today is the anniversary of the great Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltsen (1182-1251), the fourth of the five founding masters of the Sakya tradition.

Sakya Pandita was unparalleled in his learning, hence his honorific title ‘pandita’, from the Sanskrit word meaning ‘learned one’. He was accomplished in philosophy, medicine, grammar, dialect, Sanskrit, poetry, dance and astrology and he composed over one hundred works, some of which are included in Dechen’s study programme. These include ‘Clarifying the Thought of the Sage’, and ‘Discriminating the Three Vows’, which will continue to be taught this weekend (18 Jan) at the Future Inn, Bristol.

He is an extraordinarily important master for us and we are remembering him today in Dechen Sakya centres, both in our daily prayers and through the practice of his Guru Yoga.

"Your wide eyes perceive all knowable things
With compassion you achieve the welfare of all beings"

Extract from the four line prayer to Sakya Pandita known in Tibetan as the shejama.
