This evening the Toronto Murray Club marked the Shutting of the Gates with a short meeting, followed by good fellowship in the Victoria Lounge. Members and visitors alike enjoyed a traditional meal of pies, peas, and mash, and the opportunity to spend time together reflecting on the significance of this important anniversary.

A sincere thank you to Don Guy for preparing the food and helping make the evening both enjoyable and memorable.

Thank you to all who attended and helped make the evening a success. It was encouraging to see strong support and friendly conversation as we honoured our history and enjoyed one another’s company.

The Toronto Branch of the Murray Club will gather on Thursday, December 18th at the County Orange Hall in Toronto to celebrate and commemorate the historic Shutting of the Gates. This important anniversary reminds us of the courage, determination, and steadfast spirit of the Apprentice Boys of 1688, whose actions helped shape our shared history.

We look forward to marking the occasion together with fellowship, reflection, and pride in our heritage, gathering together to honour the traditions we hold dear and to uphold the memory of those who stood firm at the walls of Derry.

Legendary Mohawk Orangeman, Dr Oronhyatekha, was in attendance in Londonderry, when the foundation stone for the Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall was laid on Tuesday, August 12, 1873. Prior to the commencement of the ceremony it is recorded that he was made a member of the Apprentice Boys of Derry organisation - almost certainly the Murray Club of Apprentice Boys of Derry.

On behalf of the Officers and myself, I want to sincerely thank every one who attended and supported our Second Annual Relief of Derry Celebrations today.

Our day began in the right spirit with a meaningful Church Service, reminding us of our faith and the sacrifices of our forebears. The parade was a proud and dignified display of our heritage, and it was heartening to see so many members participating and showing their support. The BBQ was a great success—good food shared among good friends—and the time of fellowship afterward truly highlighted the strength of our bond as Murray Club brethren.

I would like to offer a special word of thanks to all those who helped with the setup on Friday evening and again this morning. Your hard work ensured that everything ran smoothly and that all could enjoy the day to its fullest.

This year’s celebration built upon the success of last year, and it is clear that our Murray Club here in Toronto continues to grow stronger in both spirit and unity. I am proud to serve alongside such dedicated brethren, and I look forward to many more memorable events together.
